We are so pleased to announce that Canopy has been honoured with a 2022 Keeling Curve Prize.
The Keeling Curve Prize is awarded to ten of the world’s highest-impact climate initiatives “with a proven track record of taking greenhouse gasses out of the atmosphere”.
Canopy won the prestigious award, which is an initiative of The Global Warming Mitigation Project (GWMP) in the category of Protecting Social and Cultural Pathways for our work in “protecting the world’s forests.”
Projects in this category are changing the way people consider, understand, and act on humanity’s impacts affecting the liveability of planet Earth.
Forests are the first line of defence against climate change, they store carbon, create rainfall and purify the air, and overall help keep the climate stable.
We are thrilled to have our work (with over 800 brand and innovation partners) to transform supply chains and keep forests standing, so boldly recognized.
The Global Warming Mitigation Project is a nonprofit that exists to pave the way to a livable future; they bring visibility, credibility, and funding to science-backed climate solutions across the globe while providing inclusive and positive opportunities for individuals, companies, and organizations to contribute to climate mitigation efforts.
Keeling Curve Prize winners are selected from a field of hundreds of applications, after passing through a rigorous screening process conducted by the program’s impressive team of analysts.
This year’s judging panel included Kara Hurst, VP of Worldwide Sustainability at Amazon; Stephan Nicoleau of FullCycle; Ashwati Ramesh of Climate Angels Network; Paul Holthus of World Ocean Council; and other leaders in the climate space.
About Canopy Planet
Canopy’s mission is to protect the world’s forests, species, and climate, and to help advance Indigenous communities’ rights.
Canopy works collectively with some of the world’s largest fashion, food and beverage, and beauty and care brands, as well as publishers and printers, to bring forest-saving solutions from the margins to the mainstream..
For the past 20 years, Canopy has consistently ‘punched above our weight’ delivering ambitious results and redefining what is possible in conservation and sustainable consumption.
This is thanks to the strength of our partnerships, as well as our team’s tenacity, and focus on solutions.
Together with our philanthropic and brand partners, we have secured environmental commitments from more than 750 brand partners, and greened the Harry Potter book series.
Over the past five years, we have transformed more than half of the viscose supply chain – now verified as ‘green shirts’ or at low-risk of being sourced from Ancient and Endangered Forests.
And, we have fostered solutions such as mills in the US, China, and Europe that use waste streams, such as agricultural residue and waste clothing, to make the packaging and clothing that are part of modern life.
Canopy works tirelessly and creatively with our partners to drive change that is proportional to the ecological challenges we face.
We’re proud of our collective impact, and also recognize the work yet to be done as we strive to protect our natural world
