Free Webinar To Help Fashion And Textile SME’s Navigate New EU Green Transition Rules

Farnham, UK – October 2026  – The Centre for Sustainable Design® at UCA, in association with The British Standards Institution, will host a free webinar on 10th November 2026 to help fashion, clothing and textile businesses understand the EU's Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition (ECGT) Directive (EU) 2024/825 and its practical implications, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Taking place from 10:00 to 11:00 AM (GMT) via Teams, the session arrives as the new rules come into force across the EU from 27 September 2026, placing tighter scrutiny on how fashion and textile businesses communicate sustainability to consumers.

With greenwashing firmly in regulators' sights, the webinar offers a timely opportunity for businesses to get ahead of the compliance curve.

The session will provide an overview of the Directive's key requirements, including environmental claims, sustainability labels, carbon neutrality claims, and consumer information on durability and reparability.

It will also examine the European Commission's September 2026 Questions & Answers document, unpacking the clarifications most relevant to fashion and textile businesses as they adapt their sustainability communications.

The webinar is organised as part of the EU Just Fashion project, which aims to accelerate climate transition across the fashion industry by equipping businesses in partner countries with the frameworks and tools needed to shift towards low-carbon, circular and socially inclusive production models.

Led by Professor Martin Charter and Sashini Jinasena of The Centre for Sustainable Design® at UCA, the webinar will help participants understand the ECGT Directive's scope and implementation timeline, explore the European Commission's latest guidance, identify how the new rules affect labelling and marketing communications, and gain practical insights into preparing for compliance.

The agenda includes an overview of the ECGT Directive and its key requirements, a review of the European Commission's Q&A and its implications for fashion and textiles, a practical action checklist for SMEs, and an open Q&A and discussion session.

The webinar is relevant for owners, product developers, sustainability professionals, compliance managers, standards practitioners and policymakers in EU-based SMEs and across the fashion, clothing and textile sector, as well as suppliers to the sector.

Attendance is free, but registration is required. Interested participants should email their name, job title and organisation to rcarruthers@uca.ac.uk, after which joining instructions will be issued.
