Ricoh Accelerates Climate Action by Raising Global Decarbonisation Targets Under New ESG Strategy
London - April 2026 – In a decisive response to the escalating global need for urgent climate action, Ricoh today announced a comprehensive revision of its environmental, social, and governance targets.
Launched as a cornerstone of its fiscal 2026 mid-term strategy, the company is significantly accelerating its efforts to realise a decarbonised society.
By raising its greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals and renewable energy adoption targets, Ricoh is firmly linking sustainable innovation with its global business operations to lead the industry toward a greener future.
The organisation has elevated its fiscal 2030 target for reducing Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions from 63 percent to 75 percent, compared with fiscal 2015 levels.
Furthermore, Ricoh has fortified its long-term environmental framework to meet the pressing demands of climate science.
Replacing its previous combined emissions target, the company has established stringent separate objectives, committing to a 90 percent reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by fiscal 2040, and a 90 percent reduction in Scope 3 emissions by fiscal 2050.
These ambitious goals have been formally validated under the Science Based Targets initiative’s Net-Zero Standard.
Demonstrating its commitment to ethical and responsible growth, Ricoh has also increased its fiscal 2030 renewable energy adoption target from 50 percent to 85 percent.
In Japan, the company is pioneering responsible renewable energy procurement that safeguards local communities and prevents environmental degradation.
Ricoh is actively revising its proprietary comprehensive evaluation system, initially introduced in 2021, to assess power sources not merely on economic value, but on vital factors such as biodiversity preservation, human rights protection, proper land use, and local community financing.
This holistic framework is being developed in collaboration with external subject matter experts, including environmental conservation organisations and academia, ensuring a deeply humane and ethical approach to energy sourcing.
Having paved the way as the first Japanese company to join the RE100 initiative in April 2017, Ricoh continues to lead by example.
The company consistently works to enhance both the use and quality of its renewable energy through onsite physical power purchase agreements and offsite virtual power purchase agreements.
Under this new mid-term management plan, Ricoh is ensuring that its aggressive decarbonisation targets are inextricably linked to its core commercial strategy, setting a formidable standard for corporate sustainability worldwide.
