Better Cotton Reaffirms Commitment To Regenerative Agriculture As A Shared Resilience Strategy

Istanbul – Turkiye - October 2026 – Better Cotton, the world's leading sustainability initiative for cotton, has reaffirmed its commitment to regenerative agriculture following its recent transition to a regenerative standard system.

The announcement comes as Chief Operating Officer Lena Staafgard reflects on the organisation's participation in the International Cotton Association Ltd (ICA) annual trade event in Türkiye, where sustainability and responsible sourcing featured prominently in industry discussions.

As global cost pressures intensify alongside mounting climate and market volatility, building resilience across cotton farms, communities, and sourcing regions has become an urgent priority for the sector.

Better Cotton's shift to a regenerative standard system reflects this growing need, positioning the organisation at the forefront of a broader industry conversation about what sustainable cotton production must look like in the years ahead.

In a new blog published by Better Cotton, Staafgard argues that regenerative agriculture cannot be achieved through farming practices alone.

Farmers require access to finance, reliable information, trusted advisory support, and other resources that allow them to adapt to changing conditions, invest in their operations, and recover from economic or environmental shocks.

Without this wider ecosystem of support, she notes, the transition to regenerative systems risks stalling at the farm gate.

The blog also outlines how retailers, brands, and other stakeholders across the cotton value chain have a critical role to play in turning regenerative agriculture into a genuine shared resilience strategy.

By aligning investment and sourcing decisions with the long-term wellbeing of farming communities and landscapes, the wider sector can help secure the future of cotton sourcing while strengthening the livelihoods of the farmers who underpin it.

Better Cotton has signalled that this is only the beginning of a deeper exploration into the topic.

The organisation is preparing to launch a joint whitepaper with IDH later this year, examining how regenerative agriculture opportunities can be converted into actionable, shared resilience strategies across the cotton sector.
