SCREENWORKS INVESTING FOR GROWTH

Investing for continued success – How Screenworks is gearing up for (even more) customisation, by blending screen printing with investment in Kornit Digital DTG technology

Speed, high quality and efficient manufacturing are at the heart of Screenworks’ success. Based in Suffolk in the UK, the company provides specialist screen printing, embroidery, digital and direct to garment printing.

As a family business that has been trading for over 30 years the team’s commitment to high quality, alongside exceptional service has ensured their continued growth and expansion. Building on these key factors is integral to their future business strategy.

As a family business with a strong management team the company is inherently agile, and when tasked with the challenges delivered by the global health crisis, they were quick to react, launching the company’s Bumpaa brand, and securing new business.

Seeing an opportunity for antiviral products the team quickly designed and developed a new product range and have successfully delivered a catalogue of protective, antiviral, promotional, workwear and day-to-day wear products and accessories. To make this happen, investment was required.  New sublimation equipment and automated bagging technology were purchased to speed up the dispatch process.

Deciding when was the right time to invest in digital technologies, and at the onset of a global pandemic, Duncan Gilmour, managing director, explained:

“When lockdown started, we didn’t know what the outcome might be for the future of our business. We are determined to create a strong, positive plan for the future and Covid-19 has shown myself and my team that we can adapt to anything. We have learnt through the pandemic that it is crucial to be diverse in both our product offering and the markets we are selling into, and this will be a big part of the strategy as we move into 2021.”

Pivoting production in the midst of a pandemic has demonstrated Screenworks’ ability to adapt their business model to meet demand and to successfully restructure production at speed.

The company have once again reacted to market trends by looking to invest further in the exceptional growth of personalized, customized printed garments and accessories - an ever-expanding marketplace with many new opportunities.

Product and production agility are key factors for on-demand manufacturing; order volumes fluctuate, and printed products vary in type, size and specification – the ability to switch between product groups at speed is therefore essential.

“This investment will truly help to support our move towards more on-demand printing, enabling shorter runs, and therefore lower MOQs. We’re committed to innovating our offering to encompass our customers’ current and future needs” added Alan Porter, operations director at Screenworks.

Digital, direct to garment printing technology delivers a solution to increasing the flexibility of the Screenworks offering as garments and accessories can be custom printed, on demand, to client specification. Screenworks have now chosen to invest in digital DTG, in order to further expand their product range and meet the needs of changing customer demands as the market for personalised goods expands. The investment is sure to secure new opportunities, and in addition, build on the company’s successful screen-printing business to enable maximum manufacturing flexibility and their continued commercial success.

Investing in the Avalanche HD6 from Kornit Digital, the leading provider of digital industrial DTG printing solutions, the Screenworks team are excited to be able to leverage the full benefits of garment customisation/personalisation. This can be either as one off’s, or at scale, on demand, whilst continuing to offer customers high quality printed products at speed.

Screenworks holds an impressive reputation for high quality screen printing. Alan Porter: “Agility, flexibility and working towards a more sustainable future through our printing techniques, are all mission critical.”

Screenworks has built a vibrant business capable of flexing to meet the changing demands of an evolving marketplace. Duncan Gilmour explained further: “I have seen huge changes in our industry over the past 20 years and I think the biggest changes are yet to come. Accelerated by the pandemic, print on demand and digital solutions are moving at a pace like never before. Screenworks will adapt and lead as we have done so many times, and ensuring our success will be our great team of engaged staff who I like to call family. We would not be here without all their efforts.”

As we emerge from a global pandemic that has undoubtedly accelerated the pace and demand for customised production, Duncan Gilmour and the team at Screenworks have ensured that they have the digital technology and manufacturing capacity in place to address the exploding demand for personalised printed production.
