What’s the role about?

We have an exciting permanent opportunity as a Print Designer for Womenswear including nightwear, some swimwear and Mens nightwear.

Responsible for designing, developing and delivering original, relevant, customer-centric and distinct best in class own brand products, utilising customer insights, to inspire, excite and delight our customers & deliver planned growth for categories.

We’re looking for someone with Womenswear print pattern surface design experience.

A good working knowledge of print and surface design in general.

You are confident, enjoy research and have the ability to influence and inspire fellow designers and relevant stakeholders. 

What will you be doing?

Collaborating with the Print team primarily but also product designers to set direction for the relevant season.

Taking past sales into account and looking for innovative ways to drive new trends throughout ranges.

Delivering Print and surface pattern designs that will inspire our customers and form a coherent category assortment aligned to brand / sub brand guidelines.

Support the Trend Colour and print team and wider fashion studio in fulfilling key tasks across the season. Pantone matching colours and producing accurate print specs.

Produce commercial and innovative print solutions to ranges.

Develop the Print signature handwriting, across the John Lewis master brands and sub brands.

You will also be able to adapt/work with existing and bought artworks to ensure we are always abreast of trends and a leader in what we offer.

You will be able to refresh, modernise, and recolour print when and where necessary.

You will Research thoroughly ,in order to  prepare and present, authoritative  relevant and appropriate category trends.

Demonstrate a good level of analytical skills to keep abreast of key customer requirements, market trends and conditions, product trends including technological advancements.

What you'll have

  • Great understanding of Adobe Creative suite, including photoshop, illustrator, indesign, pointcaree and procreate also a bonus; able to alter handwriting to suit brand and generate sophisticated conversationals/novelty print, florals/fauna/palm prints and geos

  • Stakeholder management- building solid and trusting relationships with buying/design teams in order to influence and guide print direction/ encourage the use of new print and pattern throughout ranges.

  • Fashion forward eye for print, pattern and colour. Able to consider past sales and customers while looking for innovative ways to move on/modernise print work

  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of the JL&P brand, the brand values and potential for product

 What else could you bring?

  • Very flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities and stay calm under pressure

  • Able to express opinions in a friendly, polite and non-confrontational way in order to build strong team relationships/trust and able to handle criticism/feedback

  • Team worker- open to others ideas and thoughts and not possessive of category/product. Particularly important in matrix working.

  • BA degree in Design (product, fashion, furniture, textiles,surface pattern, decorative arts)

  • Relevant industry experience within a design studio
