[JOBS] DESIGN STUDIO TECHNICIAN : SANDERSON DESIGN GROUP

We’re looking for a Design Studio Technician to join us at our Anstey Wallpaper Company; the home of beautiful, quality wallcoverings (part of the iconic Sanderson Design Group PLC).

As the Design Studio Technician, you will work in the mini screen studio supporting the Colourists on all aspects of colouring development for customer collections.

We cover the full spectrum of printing technologies, old and new alike with machines including Surface & Surflex, Flexographic, Gravure, Rotary/Gravure Hybrid, Rotary Screen, Digital, Flat Screen, a Scattering Line, Converting machinery as well as Hand Block Printing.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a stock of screens, coated and ready for engraving

  • Preparing printed samples/trials to send out to customers and keeping a record of where these have been sent

  • Mixing inks and hand screen printing to match customer specifications and/or colour chips provided

  • Cleaning and maintaining screens (degreasing and stripping of new and recycled screens prior to engraving)

  • Coating and engraving screens

  • Preparing hand-over paperwork, drawdowns, proofs etc for production requirements

  • Alterations of previously mixed inks until correct

  • Labelling and storage of mixed inks

  • Keeping record of proofs produced and inks/binders used in the mixing of colours to standard operating procedures

  • General housekeeping duties relating to the efficient running of the design studio, enabling the Colourists to efficiently to maintain deadlines e.g., maintaining supplies of material, ensuring all technical information (on inks and base materials) is up to date and adhered to when producing proofs

Skills & Experience

  • College level education in a related design discipline (textiles/surface pattern/fashion) and/or equivalent

  • Self-motivated individual able to work well independently as well as part of a team

  • Good communications skills, both written and verbal

  • Visually aware: interested in trend development

  • Organised, able to multitask, methodical, high attention to detail

  • Previous experience in wallcoverings or textile design environment (advantageous)

  • Good computer skills (particularly Microsoft Word & Excel), Photoshop/illustrator, AVA software (advantageous)
