[JOBS] ASSISTANT TEXTILE DESIGNER : CLARISSA HULSE - LONDON

This is a fantastic and rare opportunity to join the small business of Textile Designer Clarissa Hulse.

Our business designs and sells interior accessories, fabric and wallcoverings and giftware from our e-commerce site and to various shops & departments stores.

It is based in Highbury & Islington in North London, 5 minutes from the tube station and close to the busy high street.

We are looking for an assistant textile designer with a minimum of 1 year (more is preferable) of experience working in the industry to join our small but busy team.

We have a beautiful & vibrant studio space in a relaxed atmosphere (with 3 cats!) The role is very varied, with a mix of CAD design work (60%), hand screen printing, working on the website & much more, as it is a small business you will be expected to muck in on all levels.

You will work hard and learn a huge amount & have great job satisfaction seeing products from the start of the process right through to being sold to the customer. Jobs like this do not come up very often!

The Role:

  • Designing textile prints on photoshop for a large range of products from soft furnishings to hard goods

  • Researching & liaising with manufacturers for product development

  • Producing layouts and briefs for suppliers for the instruction of sampling

  • Mixing pigments & hand screen printing for samples and small runs of prints

  • Working closely with new & existing suppliers.

  • Researching trends and putting together mood boards, and preparing for presentation.

  • Hand drawing and painting elements to be used in designs.

  • Editing photos for our website and doing some web admin.

  • Assisting on photo shoots

  • Speaking to customers on the phone and in our showroom

  • Merchandising our showroom and helping at occasional retail shows

  • Helping to pack orders & deliveries and checking stock levels

  • Logging & organising samples

  • Fabric cutting for various products & samples

Skills Required:

  • Have minimum of 1 years experience in Soft Furnishing / Textiles Design

  • Have a Degree in Printed Textile Design

  • Very strong CAD skills in Photoshop & Illustrator.

  • Good drawing skills.

  • A great eye for colour and design, and knowledge of putting patterns into repeat

  • Be able to work as a team and use own initiative.

  • Ability to organise a busy workload and work to deadlines

  • Good communication & customer service skills

  • Have knowledge of the manufacturing process

  • Have experience of screen printing

  • Be a ‘can do’ person who will turn their hand to any task given to them and have lots of common sense

  • Be OK working alongside 3 cats!

This job is permanent and full time, with no remote working possible due to the hands-on nature of the role (apart from during lockdowns of course). Hours of work 9.30 – 5.30 with occasional weekend days required with prior agreement & days off in lieu.
