We are looking for a proactive & creative Assistant Designer to join our in-house design studio on a fixed term contract until December 2020.

The successful applicant will have a passion for print and surface pattern and have strength in research, colour, and pattern design.

They will be able to flex their design handwriting to a contemporary or a classic style and thrive on working on a diverse selection of projects. Industry experience developing textile products (e.g. specifying product detail, sampling, liaising with suppliers, etc) such as wallpapers, blinds and furnishing fabrics is also required.

This role is a great opportunity for a designer who has some strong industry experience but is looking to develop themselves further in an exciting, fast paced and supportive design studio.

As this is a fixed term contract the successful candidate must have the necessary skills to hit the ground running in supporting the team.

The Assistant Designer will need to be an excellent communicator, confident, adaptable and organised so that they are able to flex between multiple projects to support the Textile Design Team across all product areas.

The ability to use Photoshop to an advanced level is required and a good working knowledge of textile design programs such as AVA or Ned Graphics.

Job Requirements

Research and Creativity
- Supports Designer/Senior Designer on research briefs. Delivers suitable research, demonstrating an ability to edit appropriately and present to the team.
- Designs for and consistently builds on understanding relevant product areas and the wider design context through ongoing research.

Process Development
- Ensures the sampling process is efficient. Produces precise design packs and fulfils delegated seasonal design briefs with commercial and innovative solutions.

Stakeholder Management
- Builds relationships with stakeholders across the design and buying teams to deliver design objectives.
- Works effectively with external stakeholders, with support from Designer/Senior Designer.

Systems Usage
- Uses CAD systems competently and efficiently to create required work.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

- Design Degree or Equivalent
- An understanding of the design process and product development is necessary.
- Extensive CAD system usage and knowledge.
- Experience of working with suppliers overseas and or in the UK.
