Standfast & Barracks is one of the most versatile and innovative fabric printers in the world. We produce the finest quality prints for many design-led home furnishings and apparel brands on the market today.

We offer a bespoke design service to our customers. This includes producing high quality colour separations for colouration and engraving use, for both digital and conventional printing.

We are currently recruiting for an Apprentice Bulk Colourist to join our team at Standfast & Barracks to learn all aspects of colouration and support conventional sampling and bulk printing by matching colours accurately to customer standards and advise conventional printing on any changes required prior to bulk printing.

The Apprentice Bulk Colourist will undertake a Textiles related qualification course for exampled NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Manufacturing Textile Products.

Ultimately, once trained, the Apprentice Bulk Colourist will provide accurate recipes for new design work going into bulk production in Sampling and matching bulk colours.

Key Responsibilities
:


Initial training will include but not be limited to the following:

• Familiarisation with all production related paperwork and sequence of tasks to produce a sample
• Obtain a basic understanding of pigment, vat and reactive dyes & their properties
• Understand colour mixing processes, automatic & manual dispension of dyes & viscosity
• Become familiar with rotary & flat screen sampling & understand the differences of bulk printing
• Understand the shading process & be competent with numeracy required
• Understanding of design pitching & colour rotation
• Produce a sample from initial instruction & artwork to a good standard
• Understand processes affecting colouration (preparation, flash ageing, baking, steaming, washing & finishing)
• Become competent in both on and off line colour alterations
• Understanding of screens, engraving, mesh size, repeats.
• Understanding of CAD colouration
• Understanding of Sampling department, bulk paperwork, all computer systems relevant to colouration
• Competency in altering colours in all dye types to an exacting standard
• Work with bulk colourist to gain competency of all aspects of bulk colouration

If you would like to be considered for the position of Apprentice Bulk Colourist, you will have the follow background and experience:

• Interest in textiles, chemistry and printing
• Knowledge of CAD systems
• Good organisation skills and able to manage their own time.
• Experience in creating and using set colour palettes.
• Team player with ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Excellent eye sight and ability to colour match
