Christopher Farr Cloth is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and driven Design Intern to join the team in London for a minimum of 3 months.

The candidate must be in higher or further education in a relevant field to benefit from this scheme. If you are looking to gain experience and take a big step towards your future career, we would love for you to join the team. During the placement, you will develop an understanding of the day-to-day running of a textile business.

A small introduction to Christopher Farr – the rug company was started in the 80s by artist and designer Christopher Farr who set out to unite heritage textile craftsmanship with contemporary design vision. Along with Christopher’s own work, we are privileged to collaborate with a considered roster of international artists, architects, fashion designers and other visionaries. The Cloth division was a natural progression in 2000 and is underpinned by a commitment to the finest materials, traditional craftsmanship and collaborations with both contemporary artists and archival collections such as Anni Albers and Raoul Dufy. Today the collection encompasses fabrics, wallcoverings, passementeries and accessories reflecting a passion for time-honoured textile production processes and an intellectual yet playful approach to design and experimentation.

As Part Of The Team, Your Responsibilities Would Include The Following:

· Working closely with the sampling team to ensure daily requests are distributed to interior designers and retail clients in a timely manner.

· Help to keep samples tidy and replenished in the office and Kings Road showroom.

· Maintain daily contact with customers via email and keep excel spreadsheet up to date with daily requests to ensure timely follow ups.

· Assisting with worldwide distribution of bi-annual collection launches, to include making up road kits and display materials.

· Assisting the design team if required with any of the following tasks, fabric and trim sourcing to aid market research at Design Centre Chelsea Harbour, updating inspiration boards and organising research, making technical drawings and colour options for prints, creating visualisations for clients.

· Sitting in on supplier meetings with mills to review new qualities and develop an understanding of the design development process.

· Working on CADS on Photoshop or colouring sketches if required by the design team.

· Assisting the brand content team when needed to collate insitu imagery from client projects to be used to update marketing materials and Instagram when required.

· Assist with showroom events when required, this could include: coat checking, drinks service, guest list checks. You will have the opportunity to meet interior designers and press within the industry.

· You will have the opportunity to visit IVO Textiles printing factory for the day to see our printed linens in production and understand the processes involved in each method of screen printing: Hand, Gali, Flatbed and Rotary.

Requirements

  • Proficient in Excel and Photoshop

  • Eager to learn, positive and self-motivated

  • Undergraduate in Textile Design (or related field)

  • Positive & self-motivated attitude

  • Organised, hardworking and meticulous

  • Strong communication skills

Design Internships are voluntary/unpaid as the main benefit is a meaningful learning experience to help towards your future career. We cover transport costs and additional expenses up to £150 per week.
