University of the Arts London invites applications from student-centred research-led scholar-practitioners.

We have an opportunity for an academic/practitioner to play a leading role in shaping the research in the School of Design and Technology at London College of Fashion and contribute to teaching and learning excellence.

The School of Design and Technology’s portfolio is based on the philosophy Merged Metiérs underlining that sustainability, digital technologies (wearable tech, smart textiles and digital manufacturing) and Better Lives values are transforming the current fashion practice and industry.

This has led to expand the field of innovation in fashion design by incorporating sustainability, craft technology, creative arts, entrepreneurship and digital engineering expanding the designers’ toolbox beyond the borders of fashion.

You will lead on the development of collaborative links with national and international partners in academia and industry and on the development of external funding applications.

Your duties will also include the supervision and mentoring of doctoral research degree students as appropriate.

In addition to undertaking your own research practice, you will work closely with the Digital Anthropology Lab on developing research and Knowledge Exchange projects in Digital Design.

You will have teaching responsibilities for the MA programmess with a digital focus such as MA Innovative Fashion Production, MA Digital Garment and Pattern Cutting and the MA Fashion Futures.

You will also be responsible for curriculum development and encouraging staff to develop their research and KE practice.

You will be involved in the development of the MA Innovative Textiles Technologies, to start from September 2023.

Your profile

We welcome candidates with relevant industry and/or academic experience.

You will have the ability to inspire the trust and confidence to develop and implement strategy in a complex environment and will have a proven track record of outstanding research, as evidenced by your internationally recognised scholarship and publication.

You will demonstrate the ability to lead and mentor innovation and creativity in research and knowledge of current trends in this area.

You will have significant experience of academic leadership, through your collaborative research and involvement with relevant professional bodies and societies.

You will have the ability to ensure the delivery of the department’s strategic plan in line with the College’s ambitions, leading toward the move to Stratford, and to engender positive relationships with staff across the College and University.

You will be expected to make a strong contribution to the teaching, research and REF profile of the College and to provide ongoing leadership of your discipline.

There are opportunities to develop innovative pedagogy and collaborative research and/or knowledge exchange projects.
