Pointcarre Introduces Tufting CAD Module To Fill Gap Left By APSO
Wednesday, July 29, 2026 - RENNES, France—Pointcarre, the French American textile CAD company known for its jacquard and dobby weaving software, has developed a new module dedicated to wall to wall carpet and carpet tile design.
Pointcarre began receiving calls from tufting companies in 2024. “At the time, we didn’t know much about tufting. We’ve been jacquard and dobby weavers for 40 years. This was a completely different world for us,” said Steve Greenberg, President of Pointcarre North America.
“Starting from zero turned out to be a strength,” Greenberg said. “Instead of rebuilding something old, we went directly to the tuft manufacturers and learned their process from the ground up. What we ended up building is completely different from anything designers have used before, and a lot more intuitive.”
In 2026, the Pointcarre team visited CMC and several other leading manufacturers to demonstrate the new solution.
Designers and technical teams who had spent years working around the limitations of legacy software responded positively to the quality of the simulation, citing the accuracy of yarn rendering, the realism of surface texture and the speed of the workflow.
To support the rollout, Pointcarre has brought on Jeff Richardson as its dedicated Training Specialist for the tufting sector.
Richardson’s background spans both technical instruction and graphic design, giving him a grounding in the software as well as the creative demands of carpet design. Implementation is already underway for the first clients this year.
Development continues at pace. Pointcarre has recently achieved simulation of ColorPoint designs, a process exclusive to CMC machines, bringing a level of digital design preview to that format that has not been available before.
Artificial intelligence is also on the roadmap.
Pointcarre was the first textile CAD platform to integrate AI tools for weaving and print design in 2024, and is now applying the same approach to tufting.
New AI driven features designed to streamline and automate key steps in the carpet design process are currently in development. The company plans to unveil them at ITMA 2027 in Hanover.
For an industry that spent two years searching for a replacement to APSO, Pointcarre’s new platform, backed by 40 years of textile CAD expertise, marks a notable development for carpet and tufting designers.
