Manchester Metropolitan University Drives Digital Innovation in Textile Design with AVA CAD/CAM Certification

Manchester, UK – January 23rd 2026  – Manchester Metropolitan University has reinforced its commitment to equipping graduates for the evolving landscape of the textile industry by hosting the AVA CAD/CAM Training Certification.

As part of the institution’s 'Future Me Week 2026', this initiative bridges the critical gap between academic design disciplines and the digital and virtual innovation tools required by the modern decorative printing sector.

The university welcomed AVA CAD/CAM Group Ltd back to campus to deliver the specialized AVA Basic Training Qualification to Level 5, 6, and MA Printed Textiles students.

Manchester Metropolitan University holds the distinction of being the first higher education institution in the United Kingdom to establish this training certification four years ago.

This pioneering move has since influenced other institutions within the sector to adopt similar forward-thinking educational models.

This work-integrated learning programme offers students a distinct advantage in a competitive job market.

Participants gain essential skills and experience in specialist design and colour software that is widely recognised and utilized across the decorative printing industry.

Delivered in person by qualified trainers, including AVA’s Meabh Leaney, the course ensures that students become competent as printed textile designers while discovering specific industry roles that rely on this advanced software.

Beyond technical proficiency, the certification supports the university’s broader mission to foster employability and industry readiness.

Upon completion, students earn 60 RISE points which are recognised within their degree transcripts, alongside an industry-recognised certification.

This focus on digital innovation equips the next generation of designers with the tools necessary to navigate an industry increasingly focused on efficiency and technological integration.
