Free Direct-To-Film Upgrade Empowers Ricoh Direct-To-Garment Printers Owners To Expand Their Ability To Print On Fabrics Like Nylon, Dark 100% Polyester, Satin, Leather, And More.

COSTA MESA, CA, January 2022. Ricoh Printing Systems America, Inc. (RPSA) today announces the expanded capability of the award-winning RICOH Ri 1000/Ri 2000 direct-to-garment printers.

Users with ColorGATE RIP software, version Productionserver 21 [21.10 Build 11427], are now able to create custom apparel and accessories using direct-to-film (DTF) technology.

DTF printing greatly expands the functionality of the RICOH Ri 1000/Ri 2000 printers, delivering the ability to print on substrates that until now have been difficult or impossible to print using traditional direct-to-garment (DTG) technology.

“This is an incredible opportunity for our customers,” said Ricoh DTG Sales Director Haziel Mitchell. “Ricoh DTG printer owners can now easily print on nylon, dark 100% polyester, and even hard surfaces. That means expanding their inventory with new products like custom umbrellas, rain jackets, and leather goods. We’re excited to offer such a significant value-add without the need for costly hardware upgrades or modifications.”

The new DTF feature relies on Ricoh DTG’s existing inkjet technology, but is enabled with an upgrade to the ColorGATE RIP software that is included with the RICOH Ri 1000/Ri 2000 printers.

A user simply prints an image on transfer film, applies and heats a hot melt powder, and then transfers the image to a garment using a heat press. The resulting print is vibrant, durable, and ready to wear.

“One of the best parts of DTF is that there is no need to pretreat garments before applying the film transfers,” explained Mitchell. “That saves our customers time, allowing increased production or extra time to spend managing their businesses.”

The new DTF feature is available for free to RICOH Ri 1000/Ri 2000 owners who are ColorGATE Value Pack subscribers or new subscribers who have registered their software within the last 90 days.
