Your Print Specialists At SDUK 2022 Featured Digital Décor Artist Beth Travers Side By Side With Epson, Mimaki And Roland Digital Printers
Your Print Specialists have been attending Sign & Digital UK for over 8 years, after the pause on live events due to COVID-19 they wouldn't miss the first SDUK in 3 years.
Held at Birmingham NEC in late March, YPS hosted two stands for the first time at this year's Sign & Digital UK. Both stand J16 and F64 ran for all 3 days and focused on different areas of digital print.
Their main stand focused on wide-format print technology with solvent and UV printers from Mimaki and RolandDG being featured.
They showcased the Mimaki UJV100-160 UV LED printer, Mimaki CJV150-75 solvent print and cut and Roland DG TrueVIS VG2-540 solvent print and cut.
Their Mimaki UJV100-160 printed wallpaper featuring designs from YPS Ambassador BOBO1325 with clear ink on Drytac’s ReTac Textures Linen finish vinyl.
This is a self-adhesive textured wallpaper media available in a range of finishes including sand, canvas and woodgrain.
The clear ink creates a gloss spot UV effect against the matte finish of the UV print resulting in a creative print that drew lots of attention to the stand.
This printer was an ex-demonstration machine from the YPS Creative Centre and sold on the first day of Sign & Digital.
The Roland DG TrueVIS VG2-540 solvent printer with integrated cutter impressed SDUK visitors with its green and orange ink.
Having orange and green ink installed opens up the colour gamut available when printing.
Visitors to the stand could see BOBO1325 designs being printed on Drytac ReTac Smooth 150 vinyl as well as a range of designs and photos to really show the full capabilities of this printer and ink set.
Our third machine on stand J16, the Mimaki CJV150-75, showcased Mimaki solvent print and cut technology.
Decals and full-colour prints showcased the wide colour gamut available with having orange ink installed.
Part of the Mimaki CJV150 Series, this machine offers reliability with high quality in a compact package, perfect for those starting out in wide-format print.
“Meeting new customers and catching up with manufacturers was great for YPS. Sign & Digital UK 2022 has brought an influx of new customers to YPS from both stands and has opened the industry up again for face-to-face events. Our J16 stand features a range of technologies from both Mimaki and Roland.” - Georgia Brown, Managing Director, YPS
Their second stand F64 featured dye-sublimation technology from Epson and was part of the Sign & Digital UK Textile Tech Trail.
The stand showcased the Epson SureColor SC-F100 A4 printer, SureColor SC-F500 610mm width & SureColor SC-F6300 1.1m width dye-sublimation printers.
This stand was dressed in printed items created using Epson’s dye-sublimation range, which featured BOBO1325’s custom design created for YPS for the show. Based on the Heritage of Print, this design formed a prominent part of both stands at Sign & Digital UK.
Stand F64 exhibited sublimation print from small giftware to large applications such as textiles, home furnishings and garment printing. Visitors to the stand were invited onto the stand to view the various applications for dye-sublimation print and discuss how sublimation printing can work for their business.
Their F64 stand also hinted at our new DTF printer.
They featured samples and garment printing examples on our stand in Sign & Digital’s Textile Tech Trail.
“Our F64 Epson stand has given YPS a chance to showcase dye-sublimation and the opportunities it provides. Sign & Digital visitors have been drawn in by the range of applications we have featured printed from our Epson SureColor range, which showcase Beth at BOBO 1325’s design for YPS.” - Lauren Parker, Epson Development Manager, YPS
YPS are pleased to announce their continued partnership with YPS Ambassador Beth Travers of BOBO1325 with the creation of a design based on the theme of print heritage.
BOBO1325 won the FESPA 2020 Gold Award in the Printeriors category for her interior print design work with Leila Lily’s, Newcastle.
YPS has been working with BOBO1325 for a number of years, and are thrilled to collaborate with Beth.
I've tried to make it look like a liberty pattern but in my own way. The sunflowers and citrus represent dyes as is in the past and actually still now for the eco conscious. Citrus fruits, sunflowers were and are used and extracted for dyes. The willow leaves are for the colour mauve as that was discovered by the man who was studying aspirin and the litmus test.
The strawberries and acanthus leaves link to William Morris and his trailblazing ever so inspiring god like screen printing designs so I kind of gave a nod to his strawberry thief design for it.”-Beth Travers, BOBO1325
Thank you to Sign & Digital UK for bringing the industry together, and hosting the first face-to-face event in 3 years.
Colour Is Too Important to Leave to Chance
Print will always be the part of the garment people see first.
But the sum of all parts — the fabric, the trims, the fasteners, the finish — is what determines whether a design actually delivers on its promise. Brands that continue to treat colour as a single creative decision, rather than a coordinated technical discipline spanning their entire supply chain, will keep paying for it in re-dips, delays, and disappointed design teams.
A Century of Textiles, and an Ever-changing World
Few companies can trace their roots back more than a century and still count themselves among their industry's innovators. Texia, headquartered in Monistrol de Montserrat, Spain, is one of them.
But the story of Texia is not simply one of longevity.
It is a story of continual reinvention. As the textile industry has grown more global and competitive, Texia has repeatedly reshaped its business, investing in technology, developing its own brands, and placing sustainability at the centre of its mission. In doing so, it offers a compelling example of how a heritage manufacturer can lead rather than follow through a period of profound industry change. Image Credit: Texia
What are we craving Ultimately?
The instinct to slow down while simultaneously optimising every measurable aspect of life isn't a passing curiosity. It's a structural response to a world that feels increasingly unstable, and it's reshaping what people expect from their homes, hotels, workplaces and healthcare environments alike.
For the design and manufacturing sectors, this means rethinking both product and process.
The Structual Shift is Real and its Already Here
Volumes are moving east, where digital production is accelerating rapidly. Consumer behaviour has shifted.
Demand is now driven by personalisation, shorter buying cycles, and an expectation of near-instant responsiveness. Regulatory pressure is intensifying, with supply chain transparency now a legal and commercial fact in many markets. And margins? They are under sustained, structural pressure.
This is not a temporary disruption. It is a fundamental reordering of how textile manufacturing must operate.
The Challenge: Standing Firm as the Industry Shifts
The wallpaper landscape has changed dramatically. Digital printing has lowered the barrier to entry, spawning countless direct-to-consumer brands and pushing much of the market towards faster, cheaper production.
At the same time, manufacturing in the UK has grown steadily harder - rising minimum wage, national insurance, energy and substrate costs all bear down on margins. Surface Print have embraced all of these challenges - and stand resolutely prepared for the future.
From Helsinki's printing mill to Paris's Le Marais, discover how Marimekko is scaling a design-led brand with purpose, craft, and bold innovation.
But what makes Marimekko's story compelling is not just its aesthetic legacy?
The word "toxic" carries weight. It conjures danger, harm, and things best avoided.
“Yet in the textile industry - Where between 3,000 and 10,000 chemicals move through the supply chain, a reflexive fear of the term is one of our biggest obstacles to progress.”
This article distils the key takeaways and what buyers, designers, and brands should be asking right now.
What Is the Digital Product Passport?
At its core, a Digital Product Passport is a digital record attached to a physical product - For a printed textile product, this means the DPP would capture data on the substrate, inks and dyes used, the printing process and technology, chemical compliance, environmental impact (including water and energy use), supply chain traceability, and end-of-life instructions.
The Market Gap that Changed Everything
Future Fashion was founded in 2019, timed deliberately to coincide with a pivotal moment in global textile technology: the commercial launch of the EFI Reggiani BOLT Single-Pass digital printing system.
The founders recognised that single-pass architecture had fundamentally changed what was industrially possible - and that Pakistan's domestic market had yet to catch up.
