Cheese Couture Takes Over London Underground in Student Fashion Showcase
London, UK – November 2025 – Charing Cross Underground Station was transformed into an unlikely fashion runway this week, as emerging designers from the University of the Arts London (UAL) presented a collection of cheese-inspired couture.
The show, hosted in partnership with CNIEL (the French Dairy Interbranch Organisation), featured 18 striking creations celebrating the artistry and diversity of French fromage.
The unique event saw students from the Pre-Degree 3D Design course reimagine the relationship between gastronomy and design.
The collection showcased a range of innovative concepts, from sculptural garments that mimicked the textures of different cheeses to avant-garde accessories inspired by the cheese-making process.
The unexpected venue brought high fashion and public transit together, surprising and delighting commuters.
This collaboration provided a platform for young talent to explore unconventional materials and concepts, pushing the boundaries of traditional fashion.
Designs included the "Mould Sleeve" by Daphne Chen and Edie Humphreys, which won the top prize, and other notable pieces such as the "Champagne Gala Dress" by Zac Mickel and the "Terroir Volcanic Dress" by Jayden Peng. Each creation drew inspiration from specific French cheeses, their history, and their unique characteristics.
"This project demonstrates the incredible creativity that flourishes when different disciplines intersect. Our students have shown exceptional skill in translating the complex world of French gastronomy into wearable art, showcasing the future of design innovation,]" said the University of the Arts London. “The event highlights the university's commitment to fostering forward-thinking design and providing students with real-world opportunities to showcase their work.”
The show challenged perceptions of what can inspire fashion, proving that inspiration can be found in the most unexpected places—even a cheese board.
The collection captivated its audience, merging culinary heritage with contemporary design in a truly memorable public spectacle.
