In the recent round of Queen’s Awards, the House Of Hackney’s achievements in International Trade were recognised.

The quirky East London based print-driven business successfully designs, produces and markets a wide range of textiles, wallpapers and accessories, and the growth in export sales of its products was one of the main drivers behind it receiving this accolade.

In order to win the award, the House of Hackney had have made a minimum of £100,000 in overseas sales in the first year of the entry and show year-on-year growth.

They also had to prove that their organisation had achieved outstanding growth in overseas earnings relative to their business size and sector, and they had to prove steep year-on-year growth (without dips) in overseas sales over 3 years - or substantial year-on-year growth (without dips) over 6 years.

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious awards for UK businesses and is a globally recognised royal seal of approval for UK companies.

The Queen's Award to Industry, the scheme's original title, was instituted by Royal Warrant in 1965, with the first Awards announced in 1966. It later became known as the Queen's Awards for Export and Technology in 1975, before becoming the Queen's Awards for Enterprise in 1999.

Since the Award’s inception in 1965 more than 7,000 companies have won a Queen’s Award.

The Queen's Awards for Enterprise are awarded to businesses for outstanding achievement in four categories; International Trade, Innovation, Sustainable Development and Promoting Opportunity (through social mobility), to recognise businesses who promote social mobility.

The Queen's Award for International Trade is awarded for growth and commercial success in international trade recognising businesses who have demonstrated substantial growth in overseas earnings and commercial success within their sector.
