Challenge

The textile industry has been characterized by strong competition between manufacturers for years. There are many imitators, and pressure to keep prices in line, along with today’s fast-paced life, demands shorter delivery times and improved responsiveness and flexibility.

In this environment, one specialist in household and hotel textiles, Têxteis Penedo, is tackling the demand in the home and hotel textile markets by continuously investing in technology and responding proactively to fashion and other market trends.

Têxteis Penedo was founded in Portugal in 1975.

Today, as a major player in the Portuguese textile industry, the company is known for its industry-leading products and its innovation.

With more than 90 employees and 12 separate divisions, it produces high-quality luxury Jacquard textiles that are exported to the home textile and hotel industries in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and Europe.

 Solution

Because the number of hooks in the Jacquard machines is crucial for production flexibility and design complexity, Têxteis Penedo has installed increasingly larger and more versatile Stäubli Jacquard machines (LX, LXL and LXXL) with up to 25,600 hooks at its production facility.

The machine can be controlled digitally, using, for example,  the jacquard software “DesignScopeVictor” from “EAT the design scope company”.

The budding textile designers work on their design ideas within this software.

The designs are planned with regard to their size, the haptic texture and the color effect in the fabric.

With the help of the software and suitable weaving techniques, the so-called Jacquard card is developed from the design, which can then be read out by the Jacquard weaving machine.

In doing so, the company has been able to develop more than 500 new products and produce more than 150 million meters of textiles each year.

These large-format Jacquard machines provide Têxteis Penedo the flexibility to create sophisticated designs while also safeguarding excellent product quality and maintaining production efficiency.

The custom-configured machines are adapted to specific requirements for interior design and products including bedspreads, blankets, bedsheets, tablecloths and more.

“Stäubli has always provided us with highly technical, reliable and flexible solutions tailored to our specific requirements. Stäubli large-format Jacquard machine enables to answer our specific design challenges. The productivity increase is absolutely remarkable even when faced with complex designs." : Francisco Xavier Leite, CEO of Têxteis Penedo
