Annette’s work recognises a legacy of the traditionally female craft of textile-making. The textiles and garments used subversively champion the fluidity and tactility of everyday life against rigid systemic oppositions.
Annette sources her materials from garments from charity shops to give disposed materials new meanings and uses. Both the materials and methods used are human and imperfect.
“I am a highly motivated print and textile designer specializing in thought-provoking textiles for both womenswear and menswear. With a strong knowledge of research and development from archives, I bring innovative and captivating designs to life. I have gained valuable industry experience at brands like Simone Rocha, Puppets and Puppets, AREA, Rejina Pyo, and Chopova Lowena, where I contributed to various aspects of design and production.”
“My knowledge of textile techniques, sewing, pattern cutting, and strong proficiency in Adobe software further enhances my capabilities. Additionally, I have graduated from Central Saint Martins with a First Class Honours and was recently shortlisted for the MullenLowe NOVA Award, which celebrates fresh creative talent in the industry.”
T’M A VICTIM OF THIS SONG
I’M A VICTIM OF THIS SONG is a multi-faceted textiles project that aims to challenge the way its viewers perceive femininity.
Set up as a four-act play, it documents the inner monologue of a protagonist reflecting on feminine absurdity, surrealism, and joy.
Paying homage to the works of Pipilotti Rist, Kiki Smith, Francesca Woodman, and David Wojnarowicz, each act is inspired by different contemporary movies, art pieces, and photographs that have dynamically captured different aspects of femininity.
My project places femininity in an isolated environment, away from comparisons and responsibilities, and centres on the thrill, absurdity, and silliness that femininity can bring. In a society that focuses on relating womanhood and femininity to trauma,
I’M A VICTIM OF THIS SONG defiantly celebrates the surreal light-hearted amusements of femininity.
