The Society of Dyers and Colourists Announces Elizabeth Straughan as President for 2026/27
Bradford – June 2026 – The Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) is delighted to announce the appointment of Elizabeth Straughan FSDC CCol FRSA as President for the 2026/27 term, marking a significant moment for the global colour community.
Straughan brings a wealth of experience to the role, having spent her career working across textile dyeing, finishing, machinery sales, and textile chemicals.
This breadth of expertise spans both the technical and commercial dimensions of the global textile industry, positioning her to lead the Society through an evolving landscape.
Currently serving as Chair of the SDC Enterprises Group Ltd Board, Straughan has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to the Society and its mission.
She was awarded FSDC CCol in 2009, recognising her distinguished contribution to the field, and received the Society's Silver Medal in 2016 in acknowledgement of her ongoing service.
"It is a tremendous honour to take on the role of President of the Society of Dyers and Colourists," said Straughan. "During my presidential year, I want to help broaden the Society's reach beyond textiles and strengthen engagement with other colour-using industries, while also supporting the exciting future development of both the Society and SDC Enterprises."
This forward-looking approach reflects the Society's broader ambition to remain at the forefront of colour science and its applications across an increasingly diverse range of sectors.
By fostering connections with other colour-using industries, Straughan aims to position the SDC as a unifying force within the global colour community.
The Society also extends its sincere gratitude to outgoing President Stuart Wilkinson for his dedication and support over the past year.
Wilkinson's contributions during his presidential term, alongside his many years of service to the Society and the wider colour community, have left a lasting impact and helped lay the groundwork for the Society's continued growth.
As the SDC looks ahead to the 2026/27 term, Straughan's leadership signals a renewed focus on innovation, collaboration, and the advancement of colour science across both established and emerging applications.
