The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) is working on a legislative proposal to ban the use of bisphenols (including bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol S and bisphenol F).
Bisphenol S has been listed on the REACH Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC List) since January 2023.
Why Was Bisphenol S Listed On The SVHC LIST?
Bisphenol S can harm health and the environment.
Due to its risks, its use is increasingly restricted in consumer products, including textiles that come into direct contact with the skin. Further regulatory actions are under discussion.
Where Is Bisphenol Used In The Textile Industry
Bisphenols are often used in post-treatment agents for polyamide (PA) articles.
PA is frequently used as a material in the sport or lingerie sectors in particular.
The use of an after-treatment agent helps to improve the colour fastness (such as wash fastness, perspiration fastness, water fastness) of the fabrics and thus ensure long-lasting colour intensity.
After all, who wants their pink sports trousers to look rose after a single wash?
