Pre-Loaded Pantone Colour Libraries To Be Dropped From Adobe Creative Cloud from March 2022

In what appears to be a dispute over licence fees, Pantone colour libraries are set to be dropped from the built-in features of Adobe's Creative Cloud suite which include the ever-popular Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and Capture.

For some designers working only in CMYK digital output, this might not be too difficult,  but for other, and their clients, it could be a recipe for colour communication confusion and inaccurate spot colours.

In a statement on Adobe's helpdesk forum, the company writes:

"In March, 2022, the Pantone Color Libraries that are pre-loaded in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Adobe Color, and Adobe Capture will be removed from future software updates. To minimize the impact of this change, we are working on an alternative solution for the affected products."

As Pantone push on with their subscription based model, Pantone Connect, they are making it available to Adobe users through an online offer which costs as little as $36 per annum.

Pantone say that Pantone Connect is the digital platform that puts the power of Pantone right in your hands.

Over 5,600 Pantone Colors are missing from the Pantone Swatch Libraries in Adobe Creative Cloud, including 826 Pantone Matching System (PMS) colors and all of the Fashion, Home + Interior system colours.

Pantone Connect is now the only way to access 15,000+ essential brand, print, fashion, and packaging colors for use in your digital design projects.

Packed with easy-to-use tools for inspiration, colour extraction, matching, secure storage, and sharing of custom palettes, it's also now the only way to bring dynamic Pantone colors into your Adobe® design programs.
