Carlstadt, NJ, USA, September 2021 – Pantone is pleased to announce that Canon’s new series of imagePROGRAF large-format printers (GP-4000, 2000, 300, and 200), featuring the world’s first fluorescent ink for vivid colors and bold expression, is also now the world’s first licensed as Pantone Calibrated for Pantone Pastels & Neons.

Canon’s unique “Radiant Infusion” technology layers a newly developed fluorescent pink ink with other inks on paper surfaces during printing to enable bright and soft color reproduction for high-impact, high value-added prints.

Canon sought Pantone Calibrated approval from Pantone under license because of Pantone’s reliability for consistent color reproduction and its world-wide brand recognition.

Canon and Pantone technicians worked directly for a system of color recipes to ensure that the range of Pantone Pastels & Neons Colors could be simulated and reproduced with the new GP printers.

When Pantone determined that these colors could be simulated consistently, it was pleased to grant these four printers its Pantone Calibrated designation.

In addition, Canon’s GP-4000 and GP-2000 printers were found by Pantone to achieve 99% coverage of Pantone Formula Guide Solid Coated Colors and received a Pantone Calibrated designation for those colors as well.

These new models include the imagePROGRAF GP-4000 (44 inch) and GP-2000 (24 inch) which use 10 ink colours including red, orange, green and violet, plus fluorescent pink.

The new imagePROGRAF GP-300 (36 inch) and GP-200 (24 inch) will also be launched which use 5 striking ink colours, plus fluorescent pink.

Joe Courts, Head of Product Marketing at Canon UK & Ireland, comments: “As retail, hospitality and leisure businesses focus on reopening and recovery, bright, vibrant promotional poster graphics have a critical role to play in grabbing consumers’ attention, driving footfall and stimulating sales. For graphics producers, creative agencies and in-house print departments serving these businesses, the new imagePROGRAF GP Series printers have been developed to make vivid colours pop and bring campaign visuals to life, print after print.”

Pantone offers many different hardware licensing options for qualifying printers, monitors, and colored materials, including Pantone Validated, Pantone Calibrated, and Pantone Capable.
