Jeongho Hwang, a Fashion Design student from from South Korea at Istituto Marangoni Milano • The School of Fashion, has been announced as the overall winner of the international Arts Thread contest, sponsored by Gucci, with his "Consumed Fashion" collection.

Hwang's collection addresses the critical issue of the absorption of punk and skateboard subcultures by big brands, a practice that threatens to make the uniqueness of these niches disappear.

The 'Consumed Fashion' collection aims to bring the link between fashion and art back to the centre of the dialogue, standing out for its attention to detail and breaking with the traditional patterns of classic elements such as pockets and linings.

This award not only testifies to Hwang's talent but also to Istituto Marangoni Milano's commitment to inspiring and cultivating the creativity of all young fashion students who dream of a future in the fashion world.

In Her Own Words

My goal is for my projects and actions to become an "archive" and inspire people who dream of becoming designers.

Fashion has distanced itself from aesthetics.

The communication between the brand and the public has become more active than in the past and the brand has reached a point where it meets the tastes of consumers while maintaining its integrity.

So-called outsider fashion, such as DIY spirit punk fashion or skateboard fashion, is also been absorbed by companies and its legitimacy and unique elegance have vanished.

Fashion is imperfect and has no answers, but is it okay to let other subcultures and their minds fade for it?
