Run by Leeds Culture Trust, LEEDS 2023 aims to deliver a transformational year of creative experiences connecting and benefiting people now and into the future.

The University is delighted to play its part in bringing together a highly anticipated programme which will celebrate and transform the City’s identity locally, nationally and internationally creating a lasting legacy of economic and social impact.

Leeds Arts University joins forces with five other educational institutions: Leeds Beckett University, University of Leeds, Leeds Trinity University; Northern School for Contemporary Dance and Luminate Education Group, who will come together to share skills and expertise and engaging students and staff in creative collaborations.

The backing of these world-renowned institutions comes as a major boost for LEEDS 2023’s ambitions to create hundreds of opportunities, jobs and a legacy for young people studying and working in the city’s creative industries.

Professor Simone Wonnacott, Vice-Chancellor Of Leeds Arts University, Said:

“Leeds Arts University are proud to support LEEDS 2023. For over 170 years the University has played an important role in attracting and nurturing creative talent in the city and LEEDS 2023 is an important showcase of why so many students continue to begin their creative careers here. Our students, past and present, are key contributors to arts and culture, and we are delighted to play our part in supporting and engaging with this year-long celebration of culture in Leeds.”

Kully Thiarai, Creative Director And CEO Of LEEDS 2023 Said:

“We are all about growing our creative and cultural economy so it can achieve its full potential. Leeds is already one of the best cities to experience arts and culture, but through these partnerships we want to help show that Leeds is also an exceptional city for anyone that wants a creative education.

“Northern leaders recently came together to launch the ‘Case for Culture’ report which outlined how culture will be the catalyst for levelling up in this region. We certainly see LEEDS 2023 as levelling up in action and playing an instrumental role in the city’s social and economic recovery. We will work with our education partners to create opportunities for those already studying in the city to be part of something that’s one-in-generation, and to attract more young talent to study, work and continue to create here.”

About Leeds 2023

2023 is going to be a year that changes our extraordinary city forever and for the better. We’re embarking on a year-long celebration of culture, happening all over the city and everybody can be a part of it.

For one whole year (all 365 days, 12 months, and 500,000 minutes of it), this city is letting culture loose.

We’re gonna create, make, perform, run, bake, eat, share, sing, speak, play and more besides.

Because culture is everywhere in this city.

So now is the time to shout about creativity, in all its forms, in all our communities, and be part of it, and use it to bring us all together again, on every street, in every part of the city. Because when this city speaks, we have a proper story to tell.

This is LEEDS 2023 and we need you. So get involved, be part of it and help us… Let. Culture. Loose.
