Kornit is pleased to announce that we’re now a BLUESIGN certified company.
This certification is a huge achievement for our company, reaffirming our commitment to socially and environmentally responsible production standards.
To explain in more detail what this certification entails, we spoke to Oded Bengom, Quality Safety and Environment Manager at Kornit’s Ink Plant, who led the process of becoming BLUESIGN certified.
Hi Oded! Can You Tell Us What The BLUESIGN Certification Is?
BLUESIGN is a prestige textile quality certification, it represents the highest level of responsible and sustainable manufacturing of textile consumer products.
It is based upon three pillars:
1. Safe products and production processes for customers & employees
2. Minimal environmental impact
3. Minimal use of resources
What Is The Benefit Of Being BLUESIGN Certified?
It is the best proof, by an independent third party, that our products & processes are the best in class.
Now, we have an official stamp, by Bluesign, that our ink products are safe for operators and end users
What Was The Process Like To Become Certified?
The certification process is unique.
First, a company needs to demonstrate, through an onsite profound audit, a responsible manufacturing process in terms of environment, safety, and legal requirements.
Only then can the company can continue to the next stage.
This involves a chemical risk assessment, by the SGS lab, which thoroughly analyzes the company’s consumables products for their chemical safety.
Recently, Kornit successfully passed the tests for our Robusto & Olympia inks.
Eco Rapid Inks will be certified later this year.
What Requirements Did Kornit Have To Meet To Become BLUESIGN Certified?
First, our ink products must comply with the Bluesign rigorousness hazard material thresholds and residues banned standard.
Second, Kornit has just launched a new ink plant. This is a manufacturing site that has been designed to minimize resource impact.
The ink plant has no chimney, so there is no air pollution or emissions.
Since our products are water-based, there are no volatile materials around like in many other ink processes.
We consume only a small amount of water and energy, so it was pretty simple to fulfill all of BLUESIGN’s requirements.
How Do You Want Kornit’s Involvement With BLUESIGN To Evolve?
We’re thrilled to be certified by this prestigious third-party auditing body and we look forward to sharing more news about it in the coming months.
