Mimaki, a global leader in printing technology, has partnered with Jefferson University to launch an exciting textile design competition, aimed at pushing the boundaries of creative and sustainable design.

Mimaki representatives visited campus last week to kick off its latest industry project with Jefferson.

Over the spring semester, undergraduate and graduate textile design students will design and fabricate a collection for an interior space using the company’s digital on-demand textile printing technology.

Aspiring designers from Jefferson’s esteemed textile programme will use Mimaki’s cutting-edge TRAPIS (Transfer Pigment System) technology to craft innovative, environmentally friendly interior collections.

Why TRAPIS Matters

Mimaki’s TRAPIS technology is a game-changer in digital textile printing, enabling students to work with exceptional versatility and sustainability:

·       Eco-Friendly: TRAPIS significantly reduces water and energy consumption, setting a new standard for environmentally considerate printing.

·       Versatile: Suitable for use across diverse textiles, empowering students to think creatively.

·       Sustainable: Designed for short-run, onshore production, TRAPIS supports a shift towards localised and more conscious manufacturing.

“This competition challenges students to create designs that not only stand out aesthetically but also address global sustainability concerns,” Say Mimaki. “They’ll be able to innovate, explore new techniques, and highlight the importance of responsible design in today’s world.”

What’s Next?

Finalists will showcase their groundbreaking designs at a special unveiling event this May, where their creations will highlight the possibilities of TRAPIS technology and sustainable practices in design.

This initiative underscores Mimaki’s unwavering commitment to advancing the textile industry through technology, education, and sustainability.
