London, Uk — December 20th 2024 ─The Fashion & Textile Museum is proud to announce its upcoming exhibition, "Textiles: The Art of Mankind," opening on Friday, 28 March 2025.
This highly anticipated showcase will explore the timeless relationship between textiles, humanity, and the world we inhabit.
Through a compelling narrative that spans materials, identity, collaboration, and sustainability, the exhibition will examine the evolution of textiles—from ancient craftsmanship to modern innovations in the digital age.
Visitors will have the unique opportunity to witness rare and extraordinary textile pieces from across the globe, some of which have never been displayed in the UK before.
Curator Mary Schoeser, A Notable Expert In Textile History, Has Carefully Selected Objects That Highlight The Ingenuity And Artistry Woven Into Societies Throughout History.
One standout piece on display is the brightly colored cotton mola with a mermaid design, originally from Panama, depicting a mermaid with a trident spearing a fish.
Accompanying the exhibition is “Connecting Threads,” an extraordinary work by acclaimed UK-based artist Lynn Setterington, further enriching this unique exploration of textiles as art and storytelling.
Speaking about the exhibition, Schoeser said, “Textiles have always been more than functional objects—they carry stories of human creativity, resilience, and evolution. This exhibition not only celebrates beauty but also places importance on how textiles reflect and shape our relationship with sustainability and identity.”
