Epson Launches "CONTOURJET" Brand to Strengthen Direct-to-Shape Printing Solutions

Tokyo, Japan – September 2026 – Seiko Epson Corporation today announced the launch of CONTOURJET, a new brand for its Direct-to-Shape Printing System, combining Epson's proprietary inkjet and robotics technologies to meet the growing global demand for decorating complex three-dimensional objects.

Under the CONTOURJET brand, Epson will deliver a total solution encompassing enhanced system performance, inks, related software, implementation support, and maintenance services.

The offering is designed to help customers improve efficiency in decoration processes, reduce environmental impact, and unlock a wider range of creative designs.

Epson intends to accelerate global expansion into markets where demand for three-dimensional decoration is expected to grow, including sports equipment, automotive parts, and industrial products.

CONTOURJET combines Epson's compact PrecisionCore S800 printhead with an Epson-developed industrial six-axis robot, enabling direct printing onto complex three-dimensional objects with curved and uneven surfaces.

Paired with Epson's proprietary trajectory control and image processing technologies, the system delivers high-quality, highly accurate printing even on objects featuring grooves, contours, and other intricate geometries.

By digitalising conventional analogue printing processes, CONTOURJET reduces manual labour, saves space, and improves manufacturing efficiency.

Because inkjet technology deposits ink only where and in the amounts needed, the system consumes less material and generates less waste than analogue alternatives, reflecting Epson's ongoing commitment to sustainable innovation.

As no printing plates or special materials are required, the system also offers flexibility for short-run production and bespoke applications.

Alongside the new brand, Epson has introduced several enhancements to the system.

These include Epson-developed robots with linear motor drives and increased payload capacity for printing on larger and longer workpieces, a front-access design for improved serviceability, and support for multicolour printing, including white ink and clear varnish ink.

Epson also works closely with partner companies to recommend optimal inks and operating methods tailored to specific applications and substrates.

From 23 to 25 September 2026, Epson will exhibit at PRINTING United Expo 2026 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Nevada, USA, where it will showcase CONTOURJET's features and capabilities using sample prints.

Epson has conducted extensive research and verification of its three-dimensional inkjet printing technologies at its Inkjet Innovation Lab Fujimi in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, while the Epson Experience Center in Neuss, Germany, allows European customers to produce and evaluate test prints on their own substrates.

Drawing on the expertise developed at these facilities, Epson is actively expanding collaboration with global partners to accelerate growth in the three-dimensional decoration market.
