London June 15th – Arts Thread is thrilled to announce its partnership for the fourth year with the Real Leather. Stay Different. Student Design Competition 2024.
This prestigious global contest aims to discover and celebrate the best emerging designers who are dedicated to promoting slow fashion and a more sustainable future for the industry.
Join the Fight Against Fast Fashion
In a world where synthetics, derived from oil, dominate 60% of our clothing and the average garment is worn only five times, the environmental impact is alarming. Greenpeace reports that discarded clothing results in enormous dumps, notably in Ghana and Chile, visible from space. It's time to challenge this fast fashion model and advocate for nature by designing beautiful, durable clothes from natural fibers that people will cherish for years.
The Challenge
Our esteemed judges are calling on design students worldwide to create original, innovative, and visually stunning pieces made from real cattle leather. Entrants can submit designs in one of three categories:
Apparel
Accessories
Footwear
Designs should not only reflect creativity but also sustainability, with garments that are meant to last and be loved for a lifetime.
The Prize
Category winners will have the unique opportunity to recreate their winning designs as part of a capsule collection showcasing the best international talent. This collection will be unveiled at a final event in October 2024. Additionally:
All three category winners and the People's Choice award winner will be invited to attend the final event, with travel and accommodation expenses covered by the organizer.
The overall winner will be chosen and announced at this event.
Who Can Enter
The competition is open globally to art and design students, as well as recent graduates (within the past year) from higher education institutions.
