AATCC Unveils 101st Edition Of International Test Methods Manual : Introducing Critical New Standards For Moisture And Tactile Analysis
DURHAM, N.C. – 21 January 2026 – The AATCC has announced the release of the 2026 Volume 101 of its Manual of International Test Methods and Procedures, marking a new era following its Century Edition.
Available from 1 January 2026, this latest volume equips industry professionals with essential updates, including three entirely new standards and twenty-eight revised methods designed to ensure excellence in textile testing and quality control.
To support robust IT security protocols and mitigate risks associated with external hardware, AATCC has discontinued the USB format for this edition.
Instead, the organisation offers a secure PDF download alongside the traditional hardback binding. AATCC strongly recommends that companies and testing laboratories transition to the 2026 Manual immediately upon release to remain aligned with the most current, globally recognised methods available.
Individual test method standards are also available for digital purchase via the AATCC Online Store.
Among the significant additions is AATCC TM217-2025, Test Method for Liquid Moisture Management: Vertical and Horizontal Wicking—Image Analysis. Developed by AATCC Committee RA114, this method addresses an urgent industry need by testing vertical wicking in addition to horizontal wicking. This dual approach provides a more realistic representation of moisture management in garments as they are worn, allowing manufacturers to better predict product performance in real-world scenarios.
The manual also introduces AATCC TM218-2025, a new instrumental procedure for quantifying tactile sensations. Developed by Committee RA89, this multi-module method allows for the calculation of 'hand feel' results, substantiated by studies showing a strong correlation between instrument data and human tactile groups.
Furthermore, the new Monograph AATCC M15-2025 offers critical guidance on the selection and use of multifiber fabric, ensuring the proper application of these strips in complementary test methods.
