ESMA Academy Online ─ Chemical Regulation ─ Learn About The Legislation That Impacts The Print Sector And Associated Industries

Most in our industry are impacted by chemical regulation.

Regulations can be difficult to navigate, and it is not always clear who is impacted and why.

This ESMA course looks at the history of chemical regulation, how it evolved and why, focusing on the legislation that impacts the print sector and associated industries.

Delegates will achieve a sound understanding of sector-specific chemical regulation.

It will be of interest to a wide variety of employees and interested parties, including top-level management responsible for ensuring the legislation is complied with.

Session 1: Why Chemicals Are Regulated

During this session, we will explore the background to chemical regulation and how it has taken shape over the years.

We will review the key drivers and influences that have resulted in the current myriad of legislation impacting the chemical sector, in order to try and understand why company activities are impacted by it.

Delegates will become familiar with the language of chemical regulation, understand the difference between hazard and risk, a Directive and a Regulation, and other key terms.

We will consider the use of chemicals by consumers, professional users and workers, to understand aspects of the legislation that are focused on controlling exposure.

Session 2: Specific Legislation: Part I

In this session, we will start to explore specific legislative instruments, the key principles and main requirements: The REACH Regulation – Registration, Evaluation, Restriction and Authorisation of Chemicals.

Session 3: Specific Legislation: Part II

In this session, we will further explore specific chemical legislation and consider regulation in a global context, including a review of UK legislation and how it fits within the European framework.

The influence of the ‘Green Deal’ and ‘Chemical Strategy for Sustainability’ will be considered, followed by an example of sector specific legislation and enforcement.
