August 1, 2024 – On this significant date, Earth Overshoot Day, humanity has already consumed more natural resources than our planet can regenerate within the year.

This alarming milestone highlights that we are using Earth's resources 1.7 times faster than ecosystems can restore them.

The consequences are undeniable—deforestation, soil erosion, biodiversity loss, and the accumulation of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere.

Addressing the Challenge

In light of this, Better Cotton reaffirms its commitment to sustainable farming practices.

Our mission is to support farmers in reducing negative environmental impacts, including carbon emissions, soil degradation, pesticide use, and water consumption.

2030 Strategy Goals

Aligned with our 2030 Strategy, Better Cotton has set ambitious targets to combat these challenges:

  • Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Aim to cut greenhouse gas emissions per tonne of Better Cotton lint by 50% from the 2017 baseline.

  • Minimize Pesticide Use: Strive to decrease the use and risk of synthetic pesticides by at least 50% by 2030.

  • Improve Soil Health: Ensure 100% of Better Cotton Farmers have improved the health of their soil.

Sustainable Cotton Farming

To #MoveTheDate of Earth Overshoot Day, it is imperative that we make cotton farming more climate-resilient and sustainable.

By championing innovative agricultural techniques and promoting ethical practices, Better Cotton aims to lead the industry towards a greener future.
