His Majesty The King Visits Voysey House ─ The Headquarters Of Sanderson Design Group
LONDON, UK — On Monday 18th May 2026, His Majesty King Charles III visited Voysey House in Chiswick, the headquarters of Sanderson Design Group.
Marking a significant milestone, the visit celebrates the heritage brand Sanderson’s centenary as a Royal Warrant holder, an honour first granted in 1924 and renewed by His Majesty in December 2024.
Designed for Arthur Sanderson & Sons by the celebrated Arts & Crafts architect C. F. A. Voysey, the wallpaper factory has been meticulously restored by owners Dorrington and dMFK Architects.
The redevelopment reflects the building’s original design ethos while significantly enhancing its environmental performance.
After a tragic 1928 fire destroyed the adjacent factory, Sanderson has finally been able to return to its historic Chiswick premises.
During the tour of the design studios, His Majesty met the creative teams behind the Group’s heritage brands.
A focal point of the visit was the Highgrove by Sanderson collection, created in partnership with the custodian of Highgrove Gardens, The King’s Foundation.
Design Director Claire Vallis and Sanderson Head of Design Rebecca Craig presented new patterns, including ‘The King’s Rose’.
Launching at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2026, this design was inspired by the fuchsia and white striped-petal rose developed for His Majesty by David Austin® Roses and is adapted from an early 20th-century wallcovering in the Sanderson archive.
The King then met Lead Designers Jessica Clayworth of Morris & Co. and Peter Gomez of Zoffany.
In the Zoffany studio, His Majesty viewed traditional damasks and moirés of the kind frequently used to decorate historic Royal palaces.
The visit continued with a special introduction, as His Majesty met long-service team members Veronica Burrows and Julie Gardiner — two cornerstones of the company whose combined dedication spans nearly ninety years.
In the showroom, Lisa Montague walked The King through the collection on display.
This included an introduction to Morris & Co. x The Huntington, an entirely new body of work brought to life from unfinished Morris & Co. works discovered within the Californian museum's archive, finished by the current design studio at Voysey House.
His Majesty was shown a selection of documents drawn from the Group’s archive, a collection that houses over 75,000 records dating back to the 1600s.
The King viewed historical items, including a sample of the ‘VRI Cypher’ wallpaper designed by William Morris for Balmoral in 1887, and photographs of the Duke of York’s visit to the Chiswick factory in 1924. Staff also demonstrated traditional block printing with the iconic Morris & Co. ‘Golden Lily’ design, a technique still offered today at Sanderson Design Group’s own Anstey Wallpaper Company in Loughborough.
To commemorate the visit, His Majesty unveiled a plaque behind a curtain crafted from ‘Highgrove Toile’.
Lisa Montague, CEO of Sanderson Design Group, commented: “It is a tremendous honour to welcome His Majesty to Voysey House. This building represents a return home for Sanderson to the site of its historic craftsmanship. Our 100-year relationship with the Royal Household is a source of great pride, and we are delighted to showcase how our archives and contemporary designs continue to champion British heritage and sustainable craft.”
