London, August 2024 - The Fashion and Textile Museum is thrilled to announce that tickets are now available for our highly anticipated exhibition, "Outlaws: Fashion Renegades of 80s London," opening this Autumn.
This unique exhibition centers around the legendary nightclub Taboo, which was opened by the iconic designer and performance artist Leigh Bowery in 1985.
A Journey Into The Heart Of 80s London Fashion
"Outlaws" will transport visitors to the heart of London's vibrant 1980s fashion scene. Known for its infamous dress code—'dress as though your life depends on it, or don't bother'—Taboo became a crucible of creativity, hedonism, and cultural revolution.
The circle around Taboo, featuring notable personalities such as fashion designers BodyMap, dancer Michael Clark, and pop star Boy George, used the nightclub as a stage to blend fashion, art, and popular culture into something utterly unique.
Exhibition Highlights
Original Garments and Accessories from Leigh Bowery and over thirty other designers, including custom-made pieces from private collections.
Photography, Film, and Artworks that capture the essence of the era and the avant-garde spirit of Taboo.
Curated Experiences designed by Martin Green and James Lawler of Duovision Arts, with contributions from NJ Stevenson and Creative Consultant David Cabaret.
