Kyocera Partners Its FOREARTH Digital Printer With The National Museum Of Modern Art Kyoto To Showcase Sustainable Textile Innovation At Kimono Exhibition
Kyoto, Japan – September 2025– Global technology leader Kyocera Corporation has announced its partnership with the National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto to support "Secrets of the Kimono: The Advent of Yuzen Dyeing," a major exhibition celebrating traditional Japanese textile artistry through modern sustainable innovation.
The exhibition, which features approximately 100 exquisite examples of yuzen-dyed textiles and masterpieces by Japan's Living National Treasures, incorporates Kyocera's cutting-edge FOREARTH digital textile inkjet printer to create contemporary fabric displays throughout the museum's first-floor entrance hall and third-floor special exhibition room.
This collaboration represents a significant milestone in bridging traditional craftsmanship with sustainable manufacturing practices.
The FOREARTH printer, engineered on a water-free concept, eliminates much of the water waste typically associated with textile printing, offering the fashion industry a more environmentally responsible alternative without compromising artistic quality.
The exhibition showcases the evolution of yuzen dyeing techniques, a sophisticated method of textile decoration that has defined Japanese kimono artistry for centuries.
By integrating Kyocera's sustainable printing technology, visitors can experience how traditional techniques can be preserved and enhanced through modern innovation whilst addressing critical environmental challenges facing the textile industry.
The partnership aligns with Kyocera's broader commitment to developing technologies that reduce environmental impact across manufacturing sectors.
The FOREARTH system represents a paradigm shift in textile production, demonstrating that sustainable practices can coexist with exceptional artistic expression.
FOREARTH uses Kyocera's proprietary pigment ink, pretreatment liquid and finishing agent to realize high quality printing on a wide range of fabrics, including cotton, silk, polyester, nylon and blended fabrics.
In addition, by discharging the pretreatment liquid, pigment ink, and finishing agent in a continuous cycle, the product maximizes the performance of each element and maintains softness of the fabric.
This digital texile printer is free from the limitation of screen printing. As a result, FOREARTH achieves vibrant and high-definition printing with a flexibility in design size.
"Secrets of the Kimono: The Advent of Yuzen Dyeing" runs through Monday, 15 September at the National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto, offering visitors a unique opportunity to witness the intersection of traditional Japanese artistry and contemporary sustainable technology.
