Contracts were originally awarded for the first phase of the modernization program to seven textile machinery suppliers: Savio, Rieter, Marzoli, Benninger (including Thies and Brückner), EFI Reggiani, Itema and Karl Mayer

Authorities have begun construction on what will be the world's largest textile factory, the factory is expected to be completed in 14 months, and when finished will be able to produce textiles at a cheaper rate than current factories, provide thousands of jobs, and increase Egypt's exports overall.

The Misr Spinning and Weaving Company, Egypt's largest public-sector business, stated that the project will be undertaken with Gama Construction, Egypt's highest-rated private construction company, in a major Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement.

Itema, the global leading provider of best-in-class weaving solutions including weaving machines, OEM spare parts and integrated services, has been chosen as the weaving partner for the colossal modernization program of the public sector of the Egyptian textile industry.

Dr. Ahmed Moustafa – President of the Cotton and Textile Industries Holding Company, Itema – along with its sole agent in Egypt Fabtex Agencies and Trade represented by its owner and CEO Eng. Kamal Abbas – signed the first contract for the supply of 654 weaving machines that will operate in the production plants of Mehalla El Kubra, Kafr El Dawar and Damietta.

Rieter Group also signed contracts with the Cotton & Textile Industries Holding Co., Cairo (Egypt).

These projects entail a total of 180 million Swiss francs.

The contract comprises delivery of compact- and ring-spinning systems over the next two years.

The project aims eventually to provide more than 17,000 direct jobs, in addition to indirect job opportunities, and targets exporting to overseas markets.
