The advertising technology company plot.tec is optimizing and expanding its range of products in interior decoration, mechanical engineering and the market for children's wheelchairs with the new large-format latex printer

Children's eyes light up as a thank you: Colorfully printed spoke protectors for children's wheelchairs are a matter close to the heart of plot.tec from Dortmund.

Since the installation of the HP Latex 700W, she can now produce the popular wheel covers for medical aids even more effectively, with higher quality and in a more environmentally friendly manner.

Plot.tec benefits from one of the main features of the large-format latex printer series that HP only brought onto the market in February of this year: printing the color white.

"It can't be whiter. If I hold a white HP latex print next to a white sheet of paper, I can't tell the difference," says Gerd Kroner, co-founder of plot.tec.

When the focus this year was to invest in the company's printing equipment and to set the course for the time after the Corona Pandemic, Gerd Kroner took a close look at the large format printers available on the market:

Which solution can white print? How convincing is the result? Does the ink used meet my ideas of sustainability? Which new customer applications result from this?

Ultimately, HP was able to provide the most satisfactory answers.

Supported by specialist retail partner Igepa Systems, the HP Latex 700W - W stands for the use of white ink - was put into operation at plot.tec at the end of August 2021 and has since taken on many tasks of everyday advertising business.

High Savings Potential Through White Printing

Plot.tec can show the advantages of the HP Latex 700W in the production of spoke protectors for children's wheelchairs.

To ensure that children's little fingers do not accidentally get caught in the spokes of the wheelchair, the advertising technology company offers a variety of child-friendly motifs for the wheel covers.

Until now, it was quite a time-consuming affair to print, plot and apply the graphics on transparent and white foils from the back.

Thanks to the new printer's white latex ink, production is reduced to just one printing process followed by assembly.

“We have to dispose of less film leftovers, save time and money and also protect the environment. The savings potential is between 20 and 25 percent,” summarizes Gerd Kroner. These are arguments that convinced him. The prints of the HP Latex 700W have a brilliant color impression, are scratch-resistant to the touch and do not require an additional protective laminate for most applications. The white underprint combined with the gentle latex inks has opened up a number of applications for plot.tec that the company has not yet been able to produce in this quality. “Until now, prints on decorative glass and etched glass foils looked too washed out to fully convince customers. With the white underprint of the HP printer, the contours and motifs are now reproduced really brilliantly,” reports Gerd Kroner. Applications on black film achieve the same high-contrast effect. "The glossy overlay of the white print stands out particularly well on matt black films," adds Gerd Kroner.

Applications for acrylic glass signs and in interior decoration, such as for skylights, walk-through protection in offices or privacy protection in medical practices, have expanded plot.tec's range of products or raised it to a new level of quality. I

n the case of medical customers, there is also the fact that doctors must ensure that the components used in their practice rooms are harmless. Latex inks emit significantly fewer emissions and odors than prints made with solvent inks.

Another new application that plot.tec can now implement is apertures for mass spectrometers. For this purpose, the panel covers for data storage cabinets are underprinted in white.
