Epson Como Printing Technologies, a company of the Epson group that operates in the textile market of direct printing on fabric, launches the Monna Lisa Carbon Neutral Printing initiative.

For each Monna Lisa sold, the operations phase will be made carbon neutral thanks to a compensation program for the greenhouse gas emissions related to the generation of electricity used during the printing phases.

The neutralization activity, carried out in collaboration with Rete Clima, a non-profit organization that promotes CSR actions for companies and individuals, will take place both through the cancellation of Gold Standard carbon credits generated by a wind project in India, and with a parallel planting of trees at zero km at Parco Nord Milano, an experience already started a few years ago by Epson in Italy with the aim of leaving a concrete trace of environmental commitment also on the local territory.

"I am convinced that today companies must commit themselves as and more than before to act directly on the problem of global warming - explains Paolo Crespi, commercial director of Epson Como Printing Technologies - and this means producing better, with the involvement of the supply chain in order to reduce minimal environmental impact. Digital printing technology and Monna Lisa first and foremost, a pioneer in the textile sector, offers significant savings in terms of water and electricity consumption. With the Monna Lisa Carbon Neutral Printing initiative we will neutralize that part of CO 2 linked to the generation of electricity required by the operation of the machine. "

How Does It Work…

In detail, the principle is simple: once the CO 2 emitted by a production cycle has been measured , in this case printing on fabric using the Mona Lisa printer, a project is supported that compensates for CO 2 through the purchase and cancellation of carbon credits, in order to compensate for the climatic impact of the production cycle itself.

The parallel planting of trees on the local area is complementary and integrative as it allows the generation of various types of benefits such as the absorption of CO 2 , the removal of atmospheric pollutants, the protection of biodiversity, the contrast to the urban heat island, the creation of usable spaces for citizens.

"Climate warming is a great and significant risk, whose contrast requires everyone's collaboration. First of all, companies - says Paolo Viganò, Founder of Rete Clima - are called to work towards concrete decarbonisation objectives, in order to contribute to the protection within its organizational perimeter or even its supply chains. Epson's project goes precisely in this direction, in the sense that it represents a commitment aimed at voluntarily reducing the climatic footprint of the processes in which the equipment it places on the market is used.

A gesture of responsibility that goes beyond the production of the Monna Lina printer, to also interest customers and their productions ".
