Graduates and staff from the University’s BA (Hons) Textile Design have been featured in an updated publication of The Fundamentals of Printed Textile Design by Alex Russell.

Senior Lecturer Caroline Pratt has been featured alongside alumni Lorna Robey, Emmeline North and Louise Barlow.

Caroline is a printmaker, pattern designer and senior lecturer on BA (Hons) Textile Design. Louise, Emmeline and Lorna all graduated from BA (Hons) Textile Design in 2019.

Lorna now specialises in hand screen printed textiles and papercut collage installations; Emmeline is a surface designer whose work can be seen across mural installations, set design and display; and Louise is a surface pattern designer with a love of large scale geometric shape.

The graduates were introduced to the author at New Designers, the leading graduate design show held annually in London.

The book is an essential introduction to contemporary printed textile design, highlighting the breadth of studying and working within the textile industry. Alex Russell is a designer and graphic artist based in Manchester creating pattern designs and artworks for an extensive range of uses including interiors, home, fashion, lifestyle and giftware.

Caroline Pratt, Senior Lecture BA (Hons) Textile Design said: "It’s a real privilege for myself and some of our alumni to be featured in the most recent edition of Alex’s publication. It’s a bookshelf staple for any would be textile designer featuring loads of great advice and guidance drawn from his several years working in the industry. I really hope many find inspiration in its pages and it’s lovely to see so many fresh graduates highlighted alongside more established practitioners."
