AVA are proud to support i-dott; Inspiring the designers of tomorrow today, a charity initiative, passionate about bridging the gap between emerging designers and the wallpaper and textile industries.

AVA proudly presents training awards to four chosen winners.

Each AVA award winner will be invited to their offices in Macclesfield, Cheshire, to attend a 5-day intensive training course (CST Level 1 course).

During the course they the designers will learn creative tools which allow design in real-time repeat, an array of colour separations techniques, colourway generation and professional presentation with AVA mapping and layout.

It isn’t always easy to find design graduates with the appropriate skills for industry-standard positions and the i-dott charity is one way for students of design, to not only win prizes with their talent but also work to industry set design briefs and network with prominent experts within the surface pattern field.

This Year’s Briefs Have Been Set By:

Cole & Son : “A Captivating And Conversational Design”
HP : “Reuse- Reduce- Recycle”
Anstey :  “The New Zeitgeist”.

Since i-dott was founded as a charity in 2013, well over 3,000 artworks have been submitted to the annual surface pattern design competition giving students from around the world the unique opportunity of having their work appraised, critiqued and judged by senior industry design professionals.

The competition also gives them the opportunity to put their work directly in front of the wallpaper and textile industries’ decision makers; CEO’s, Managing & Studio Directors and Studio Managers.

Each year new colleges and universities enter the competition and several of their past students have found positions within our industries as a direct result of entering the competition which proves that it does work -bringing universities, colleges, students and industry closer together can only result in good things for all.

The competition is at the heart of the charity and is and will always remain, a priority.

I-Dott have built strong relationships with a good number of universities and colleges around Europe who have returned to the competition year on year and each year the number of entries increase markedly.

I-Dott’s  aim is to connect with Academia around the world to offer surface pattern design students everywhere the opportunity of meeting the world of work through our competition.

The competition is devise to give students an experience of what it could be required of them when employed in a real-life design studio working environment.

The competition consists of 4 design categories and students are invited to enter one or all of the categories providing they follow the rules of the competition.

The student will need to

•create work/s which answer the design brief

•create work/s that fit into the chosen dimensions as laid out in the technical brief

•understand the importance of assigning copyright and protecting intellectual property

•produce digital imagery which is a true representation of the artwork/s and are of dimensions as stated in order to create room-shots, marketing, advertising and publishing material

Judging –Fair And Square

To ensure that all entries are judged on merit alone the artworks have any and all identification removed.

In fact the only piece of information the judges have to identify the work is the time limited copyright number which is assigned at registration upon arrival at our offices.

This number is also the copyright number by which i-dott claims ownership of the design for the limited time period as set out on the copyright document.

Both judging panels are totally unaware of:

•The establishment the student attends

•The sex of the student

•The ethnic origin of the student

•The age of the student
