London, UK – October 17th 2024 - In a groundbreaking demonstration of sustainable innovation, Phoebe Emma Lewis, a GREEN GRAD from Northumbria University, has pioneered a project utilizing seaweed dyes aimed at the regeneration of coastal communities.

Her work was recently showcased at the @colour_of_saying ‘Ethical Colour’ exhibition during the London Design Festival, an event dedicated to promoting climate-positive and regenerative color sources.

Phoebe’s creative use of opportunistic macroalgae harvested from the North East as part of the @lifewader23 project has captured attention for its potential in fostering sustainable practices within the textile industry.

This initiative not only highlights the promise of eco-friendly dyes but also emphasizes the role of sustainable design in community regeneration.

The exhibition, captured through the lens of renowned photographer Sara Hibbert, demonstrated a rich tapestry of research and innovation from all participating designers.

Adding to this wave of eco-conscious creativity, Conor McArthur from the Glasgow School of Art will present his innovative seaweed drying rack at the upcoming GREEN GRADS AT YORKTON WORKSHOPS, sponsored by @pearsonlloyd.

This breakthrough is in preparation for the development of seaweed leather, further expanding the horizons of sustainable materials in fashion and design..”

The commitment to sustainable practices as seen through these projects is at the heart of GREEN GRADS’ mission to address environmental challenges with forward-thinking solutions.

This movement highlights the urgent need for industry-wide adoption of ethical practices, ensuring a thriving future for generations to come.
