The William Morris Gallery And Liberty Fabrics Celebrate Female Design Pioneers In A Landmark Exhibition ‘Women In Print’

London, UK – December 2025– William Morris Gallery, in a historic collaboration with Liberty Fabrics, today announces the upcoming opening of Women in Print: 150 Years of Liberty Textiles.

This major exhibition commemorates the design house’s 150th anniversary by shining a necessary spotlight on the pivotal role of women textile designers.

The retrospective surveys the evolving influence and status of women in the industry, exploring their centrality to Liberty’s creative innovations from the Victorian era to the present day.

Women in Print brings together iconic patterns by celebrated designers such as Althea McNish, Susan Collier, Sarah Campbell, and Lucienne Day, alongside previously overlooked figures whose contributions have significantly shaped the textile landscape.

By featuring over 100 works spanning garments, fabric, original designs, film, and historic photographs, the exhibition underscores how women have been—and continue to be—the driving force behind Liberty’s ongoing relevance.

Beyond the historical retrospective, the exhibition addresses the urgent need to support the next generation of creative talent.

A robust programme of events, including mentoring and training for local young people, underpins the showcase.

These initiatives pose a critical question regarding the future landscape for women textile designers in the UK, aligning with the Gallery's commitment to fostering sustainable and ethical career pathways in the creative arts.

Curated by Rowan Bain, Principal Curator of Collections and Programme, and Róisín Inglesby, Curator at William Morris Gallery, the exhibition features design by Simon Milthorp, Lai Couto, Scarlet Winter, and the Liberty Design Studio.

This presentation also marks a significant moment for the venue itself, forming a key part of the William Morris Gallery’s 75th anniversary programme.
