The Sarabande Foundation Announce An Extension To Their Creatives Residency Scheme In East London
Sarabande was set up by the late designer, Lee Alexander McQueen, who left the majority of his estate to support creative and visionary talent.
The Sarabande Foundation was established because Lee passionately believed that creative minds with the potential to push boundaries should be given the same opportunities he’d enjoyed.
Sarabande is there to observe and facilitate – the partners and friends of Lee are there to guide and inspire.
The genesis of all Lee’s achievements was his open-minded approach to absorbing diverse creative influences and applying them in new and exciting ways.
It is that openness and bravery that Sarabande seeks to inspire in future generations of creatives.
As we announce Sarabande High Road, we have been overwhelmed by the influx of applications so far and very excited at what we’ve seen so far.
You’ve now got until 15th August to apply for a Sarabande Residency.
From artists, designers and makers who are at a pivotal point in their creative career to those who have worked their way into the industry but have yet to strike a fire, the residency provides business and practical advice in its role as a creative business accelerator.
Many artists have felt intimidated or ill-prepared to apply, but have come to find themselves at the right place for their creative careers to be supported, and have joined the Sarabande roster.
We encourage all to apply - there are no age or educational restrictions - all that matters is having a novel creative practice and exceptional execution.
If you are a... animator, art photographer, fashion designer, ceramicist, sculptor, silversmith, jewellery designer, painter, performance artist, illustrator, installation artist, digital practitioner...
and everything undefined, this is your opportunity to elevate your creative career.
DEADLINE EXTENSTION: 15 AUGUST @ 18:00.
Apply now and become a Sarabande artist.
About The Sarabande Foundation
In addition to providing scholarships and studio space for artists, Sarabande produces a number of events, from the practical to the inspirational.
Sarabande operates from a listed Stable Block conversion in Haggerston, where 15 studios form a creative community with designers and artists from multiple disciplines.
Immersed in the hub of East London’s rich creative spirit, Sarabande exudes all that encompasses the creative sphere.
The building is home to a plethora of artisans reflecting the multifarious span of Lee’s talent and the variety of craftspeople he worked with his own collections.
Amongst others, our tactile artists include sculptors, fashion designers, jewellers, textile designers, painters, performance artists, silversmiths, costume designers, ceramicists, and dancers.
Alongside these, Sarabande also houses filmmakers, animators, photographers, digital designers, and visual artists.
Sarabande's Impact
Sarabande’s support goes out to beyond those in house and alumni – once a Sarabande artist, always a Sarabande artist.
Since 2012, we have been awarding scholarships for students to study at prestigious institutions in London.
Successful students are chosen with the input of an industry expert from within the foundation’s network for being fearless in their creativity but lack financial backing.
Recent specialists have included Sarah Burton OBE, Nick Knight OBE, Matthew Slotover, Sadie Coles, Jake Chapman and Marina Abramović.
The scholarship programme is the backbone of Sarabande’s work, supporting the education of future generations’ most visionary creatives.
