Summa Opens At FESPA 2021 Today To Reunite With Its Customers And Demonstrate The Versatility, Speed And Accuracy Of Its Cutting Machines
This year’s theme at Fespa “Bringing colour back”, could easily refer to a long-awaited come-back by the Fespa organization and its many exhibitors after a difficult period of distancing.
Also, Summa will not miss the opportunity to reunite with customers and visitors and will be present at the Fespa show in Amsterdam to showcase its product line of top-level cutting solutions at booth M29 in Hall 5.
Several finishing and cutting products from Summa’s four product series will bring colour to our booth.
Our dedicated Summa team will be giving demonstrations throughout the show, guiding visitors through the many advantages, features and perks embedded in the company’s extended cutting solutions.
Summa S One Series, Easy-To-Use And Cost-Effective Roll Cutters
The S One cutters are Summa’s latest addition and will be featured on the booth together with the Tray One sheet feeder. Two units, the S1D60 and S1D160 will be running continuously during the show for visitors to see the sturdiness and efficiency of the Summa roll cutters. Key features include:
OPOS Xtra functionality, especially beneficial when cutting small sticker jobs, detecting curvature changes most accurately.
Legendary Tracking, featuring Summa's exclusive MicroSprocket™ drive drum, coupled with powerful servo motors, delivers jaw-dropping accuracy.
A powerful drag knife exerting no less than 600 gr cutting force.
GoSign Software, Summa’s in-house GoSign software for the Summa roll cutter series to manage your preferred workflow with great flexibility.
Summa S Class 2 Series, For High-Volume Precision Vinyl Cutting
The S2TC160 model from the S Class 2 Series will show you just why Summa is renowned for its roll cutter technology.
Featuring meticulous and fast cutting for short and long-run jobs. By combining Summa’s Tangential module with an OPOS CAMera, the S2TC160 model offers highly accurate recognition of the registration marks at lightning-fast speeds.
The processing of entire rolls of vinyl is, therefore, much more productive with an OPOS CAM cutter.
Key features include:
Twin compatibility, OPOS CAM cutters are Twin compatible, meaning the processing of a job can be initiated on the OPOS CAM roll cutter, such as the S2TC160 unit, applying the kiss-cut technique and finish the job on the F1612 flatbed cutter for cutting through.
True Tangential Technology. Summa is the sole manufacturer of cutting heads with True Tangential Technology, which is featured on the S Class 2 roll cutters. Each cut will have perfectly shaped corners and unsurpassed quality, even at high speeds.
G-Performance is available for the Summa S Class 2 roll cutters to boost performance and speed up to 40%.
GoSign Software, Summa’s in-house GoSign software for the Summa roll cutter series to manage your preferred workflow with great flexibility.
Summa F Series, Powerful And Versatile Flatbed Cutters
The Summa F Series will be represented by its most popular model, the F1612. Also this year, the F1612 will be accompanied by the convenient conveyor extension.
But also two brand new F Series tools will be demonstrated.
The wide gamut of materials and applications shown on the F Series flatbed system during the show will be inexhaustible, proving once again how versatile this high-end product series is.
Key features include:
F-Performance, available for the Summa F Series, which increases performance with faster movements of the cutting head, finishing the job practically twice as fast.
GoProduce software, Summa’s in-house software for the F Series to facilitate the operator’s work. Featuring a user-friendly material database, including an extensive range of material types defined by Summa, which can be adapted to your specific needs whenever you see fit.
Improved Safety System, ensuring safe access to the F Series’ working area and move around the flatbed more easily.
New tools to be launched:
Perforating Tool NEW for the F Series, used to make perforations in a very efficient and fast way. By using this tool, perforated materials, such as cardboard, will be a lot easier to bend or fold.
1400W Router System NEW, offering an attractive performance increase with improved output quality over the standard router. The router is suitable for milling, contour cutting, polishing and engraving.
Summa L Series, Fast And Accurate Laser Cutting To Optimise Workflows
Summa’s laser cutting series, the L Series, will be represented by its L1810 Vision model this year during the Fespa show.
The L1810 is especially suitable for laser cutting of textiles, such as sportswear, dye sublimation garments but also all sorts of raw materials used in the composite industry.
Key features include:
Perfectly sealed edges avoid any fraying during the processing of textiles for sportswear and apparel with Summa’s high-end laser systems.
Contactless cutting avoids any distortion or deformation while cutting, providing for a perfectly cut, high-precision end product.
Vision Technology uses advanced camera recognition technology to enhance productivity. This Vision technology instantly scans the material and creates cutting vectors without operator intervention or the need for cut files.
Golaser Softwarebeta
This new software module will be demonstrated in beta, as Summa will soon launch its very own software tailored to its laser cutters.
One of the greatest assets of the GoLaser software is that it can also read barcodes, which will be most convenient for the signage industries.
Follow The Production Process From A To Z
In cooperation with our neighbor at Fespa, Klieverik, a micro-factory is set-up showing the process of print by Mimaki, then transferring the printed textiles on the Klieverik Vertex hybrid transfer printing calender and cut them on the Summa L1810 laser cutter.
The microfactory is initiated by Klieverik who wants to emphasize the necessity of sustainable entrepreneurship.
This is reflected in the use of sustainable materials (provided by Greentex) and cutting methods where material is optimally cut/processed (Summa).
The 2027 FESPA Awards are now open for entry, and the message to businesses across textiles, apparel, interiors and beyond is simple: your work deserves recognition. Every gold winner featured here started in the same place every entrant does - with a project they believed was worth submitting.
As the only independent awards programme with 18 categories dedicated to print and signage, FESPA offers a genuinely global stage, with shortlisted entries displayed at FESPA Global Print Expo in Spring 2027.
Colour Is Too Important to Leave to Chance
Print will always be the part of the garment people see first.
But the sum of all parts — the fabric, the trims, the fasteners, the finish — is what determines whether a design actually delivers on its promise. Brands that continue to treat colour as a single creative decision, rather than a coordinated technical discipline spanning their entire supply chain, will keep paying for it in re-dips, delays, and disappointed design teams.
A Century of Textiles, and an Ever-changing World
Few companies can trace their roots back more than a century and still count themselves among their industry's innovators. Texia, headquartered in Monistrol de Montserrat, Spain, is one of them.
But the story of Texia is not simply one of longevity.
It is a story of continual reinvention. As the textile industry has grown more global and competitive, Texia has repeatedly reshaped its business, investing in technology, developing its own brands, and placing sustainability at the centre of its mission. In doing so, it offers a compelling example of how a heritage manufacturer can lead rather than follow through a period of profound industry change. Image Credit: Texia
What are we craving Ultimately?
The instinct to slow down while simultaneously optimising every measurable aspect of life isn't a passing curiosity. It's a structural response to a world that feels increasingly unstable, and it's reshaping what people expect from their homes, hotels, workplaces and healthcare environments alike.
For the design and manufacturing sectors, this means rethinking both product and process.
The Structual Shift is Real and its Already Here
Volumes are moving east, where digital production is accelerating rapidly. Consumer behaviour has shifted.
Demand is now driven by personalisation, shorter buying cycles, and an expectation of near-instant responsiveness. Regulatory pressure is intensifying, with supply chain transparency now a legal and commercial fact in many markets. And margins? They are under sustained, structural pressure.
This is not a temporary disruption. It is a fundamental reordering of how textile manufacturing must operate.
The Challenge: Standing Firm as the Industry Shifts
The wallpaper landscape has changed dramatically. Digital printing has lowered the barrier to entry, spawning countless direct-to-consumer brands and pushing much of the market towards faster, cheaper production.
At the same time, manufacturing in the UK has grown steadily harder - rising minimum wage, national insurance, energy and substrate costs all bear down on margins. Surface Print have embraced all of these challenges - and stand resolutely prepared for the future.
From Helsinki's printing mill to Paris's Le Marais, discover how Marimekko is scaling a design-led brand with purpose, craft, and bold innovation.
But what makes Marimekko's story compelling is not just its aesthetic legacy?
The word "toxic" carries weight. It conjures danger, harm, and things best avoided.
“Yet in the textile industry - Where between 3,000 and 10,000 chemicals move through the supply chain, a reflexive fear of the term is one of our biggest obstacles to progress.”
This article distils the key takeaways and what buyers, designers, and brands should be asking right now.
What Is the Digital Product Passport?
At its core, a Digital Product Passport is a digital record attached to a physical product - For a printed textile product, this means the DPP would capture data on the substrate, inks and dyes used, the printing process and technology, chemical compliance, environmental impact (including water and energy use), supply chain traceability, and end-of-life instructions.
