The RCA X Design For Good Academy Returns For 2026 ─ Opening Its Doors To The Public For The First Time

London, UK –  August 2026 – The Royal College of Art (RCA) has announced the launch of the fourth RCA x Design for Good Academy, an ambitious live online short course that, for the first time, will open its places to the public alongside Design for Good alliance members and RCA students.

The programme begins in October 2026 and runs until March 2027.

Bringing together the creative expertise of the RCA and the impactful vision of Design for Good, the Academy equips creatives to design and implement integrated products and services that address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

With up to 1,000 participants, this collaboration marks the largest longstanding international online course ever initiated by the RCA.

Across six modules, the course will be taught by leading faculty and leaders from the RCA, the Hasso Plattner d-school Afrika at the University of Cape Town, Imperial College London, Stanford University, the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design (CIID), FLAME University, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL+ECAL Lab) and the UK Design Council.

Module topics span the principles and processes of mission-led innovation for people and planet health, the application of green design skills and co-design practices, understanding wicked problems and design for complex systems, harnessing the power of nature-inspired design and nature-based solutions, and transforming concepts into impactful propositions.

Speakers include Dr Nick de Leon, Design for Good Co-founder; Cat Drew, Chief Design Officer at the UK Design Council; Richard Perez, Founding Director of the Hasso Plattner d-school Afrika; Dr Cristobal Garcia-Herrera, Director of Wicked Labs at Imperial Business School; Steve Blank of Stanford University; Simona Maschi, co-founder and director of CIID; Dr Amit Kundal of FLAME University; and Nicolas Henchoz, founding director of the EPFL+ECAL Lab.

The Academy operates as a networked model, with each academic contributing to modules in a shared curriculum.

The RCA acts as the academic anchor, designing the overall programme framework and narrative while providing coordination, certification and quality assurance.

This structure keeps learning outcomes globally scalable and locally grounded, building a long-term international community of creatives equipped to address interconnected social and environmental challenges. Participants will apply their learning to a real-life project or activity, exploring avenues to create meaningful change in their communities and professional spheres.

“For the fourth consecutive year, RCA Executive Education is proud to lead the RCA x Design for Good Academy cohort,” said Dr Nick de Leon, Knowledge Exchange and Partnerships Lead, School of Design, RCA. “For this cohort, we are collaborating with top-tier academics and education organisations to build a curriculum that will help participants use their talents to launch high-impact projects for human and planetary health over the next four years.”

Alongside the course, the Academy will host two free public Masterclass Talks as live webinars: one from OpenStudio on Designing with AI, and another from the RCA-led Ecological Citizen(s) Network+.

These sessions offer an opportunity to engage directly with experts, ask questions, and gain a more nuanced understanding of designing for positive impact.

The Design for Good alliance comprises a growing list of the world's largest companies and organisations, including Logitech, McKinsey & Company, Philips, Microsoft, Lloyds Banking Group and the Royal College of Art.
