London, UK, July 2024Canon, a leading global provider of end-to-end digital production print solutions and services, today recognizes drupa 2024 as its most successful to date in terms of customer engagement, investment, and visitor interest.

Despite visitor numbers being down from the last show in 2016, current and potential customers flocked to the Canon stand to discover how the latest printing solutions and support services from Canon and its technology partners could transform their businesses sustainably.

Exceptional Levels of Interest and Investment

Launching its campaign 'The Power To Move' at drupa 2024, Canon demonstrated the power of print to move people emotionally to achieve positive change and to move businesses forward through the deployment of Canon’s transformative technologies, expertise, and support.

With curated workflows, Canon showcased its latest enabling technologies with partners, presenting real-life customer solutions and inspiring visitors. Sales of Canon’s web-fed and sheetfed presses for commercial print and promotional communications were particularly strong, especially the ProStream 2133 web-fed inkjet press and varioPRINT iX3200 sheetfed inkjet press.

The newly announced varioPRINT iX1700 and the B2-format varioPRESS iV7 also drew substantial interest, despite not being commercially available until next year.

Customer investment in Canon imagePRESS V series color and varioPRINT mono toner devices exceeded projections, indicating that toner remains the digital printing technology of choice for many print service providers.

Recognizing the growth opportunities offered by wide format printing in interior décor, wallpaper, packaging, and fine art, Canon's full portfolio, including the Arizona, Colorado, and imagePROGRAF series, saw sales far surpass expectations. Sales of the new generation of colorWAVE and plotWAVE printers for CAD applications also exceeded expectations.

The Power of Partnerships

Canon's stand featured many key collaboration activities. The elevated prints from the World Unseen project, printed on the Canon Arizona, proved very popular.

These exhibits will now embark on an EMEA tour, allowing visitors across the region to enjoy the experience throughout 2024.

The Printworks area showcased Creative Futures winner Bower Collective, a UK provider of natural household and personal care products in reusable packaging, illustrating how industry experts can collaborate to develop highly targeted, successful campaigns that meet modern B2C business needs.

The Publishing 2030 Accelerator and other charitable partnerships, including the UN SDG Book Club African Chapter and UK charity Topic Heroes, were also highlighted. Canon, along with its finishing partners, managed to print and donate around 10,000 books and 10,000 postcards, posters, and brochures to different organizations around the world. Additionally, Canon demonstrated the power of programmatic print with German furniture retailer POCO, showcasing how print supports the buying journey and enhances the in-store experience.

Canon also hosted a successful ‘Girls Who Print’ networking event, demonstrating its commitment to diversity within the industry.

Canon's Vision for the Future

Duncan Smith, Country Director, Production, Canon UK & Ireland, said, “drupa is an important industry event for Canon, and it was great to return to the show after nearly a decade. The 2024 event allowed us to showcase our market-leading portfolio of technologies and connect with the wider print community. By showcasing real-life cases and through collaborations with forward-thinking businesses, Canon demonstrated print’s power to captivate and drive change."

He added, “Yet again, drupa proved to be an important meeting point and a wonderful showcase of print’s versatility.
