MUNICH FABRIC START REVIEW: SUSTAINABILITY HIGH ON THE KEYHOUSE AGENDA

Among the over 1,000 Suppliers featuring over 2,000 Fabric Collections at Munich Fabric Start, the visitor soon became aware of the focus on Fabric Sustainability that has become an important component in today’s sourcing world.

From Panel Led Discussion Groups through Technical Innovation Seminars to Eco-Friendly Fabric Collections the centre of gravity of the show has moved significantly towards addressing this most important component of today’s winning fabric market proposition.

Demonstrating this was  The Keyhouse Feature, an innovation hub which showcased new technologies and smart fabrics as well as  business models where sustainability and value creation took centre stage.

Everywhere, the fascinating pace of inventive ingenuity abounded.

On the KORNIT DIGITAL stand the latest patented technology of printing on sustainable materials was shown.

Kornit have long pioneered digital printing and their new Presto machine prints with 1 ink set on multiple fabric types including naturals, synthetics and blends, with a wide color gamut and no design limitations. The Kornit Presto offers a cost-effective and eco-friendly way to print on textiles.

With a focus on sustainability, Kornit use only certified eco-friendly water-based inks and the print is applied directly onto the material in a one step process, which saves energy, labour and water in a process that accelerates fabric production’s  speed to market.

With a focus on creativity and sustainability, the Digital Textile Printing House offer exclusive custom printed fabrics for the international fashion and interior design market. Printed on demand and importantly, producing no more than is needed, they encourage the use of sustainable materials to make wearable fashion that looks great and is friendly to our planet.

Varvaressos

Presented their Special Green cotton (SGC) addressing water usage which is one of the pressing issues in cotton production.

Varvaressos utilises Israeli ultimate technologies and expertise in water management and has customised a sustainable technology that allows them to reduce water consumption up to 40 per cent.

Thanks to the advanced drip irrigation system, plants are watered and fed without wasting a single drop.

With presentations of fibres made from sustainable wood sourcing  from Lenzing, water saving dyes from Archroma and digitised workflow software  from Lectra, the Innovation Hub was a truly memorable experience that was complimented by a creative event schedule.

This schedule commenced with a brilliant video presentation from Do Epic Good entitled ‘Catwalk to Creation : Designed For A Lifetime Not  A Season’

Then followed SusTECHability – How Trends & Technology influence Sustainability in Fashion” and went on to feature panel discussions and video presentations for the remaining two days of the show.

All in all, Keyhouse presented a brilliant technological focus for the visitor intent on keeping up with innovation in the Textile Industry.
