Kongsberg C66 Cutting Solutions Transforms Production Capacity And Drives Sustainable Growth at Berma of Moreira da Maia

Moreira da Maia, Portugal – March 2026 – Portuguese display and in-store decoration specialist Berma has significantly increased its production capacity and operational efficiency by integrating Kongsberg C66 cutting tables and automated Feeder and Stacker systems.

Founded in 2015, the forward-thinking company recognised the urgent need to upgrade its legacy equipment to process complex, sustainable materials and sustain its rapid market expansion.

With 90 per cent of its output traditionally made from corrugated cardboard, Berma faced a critical challenge as its former cutting machines struggled to handle thicker and more demanding substrates.

To maintain its competitive edge and ensure continuous operation, the company invested in its first Kongsberg C66 in 2018. Following unprecedented success, a second machine was added just two years later to meet escalating market demands.

Recognising the industry-wide shift towards automation and intelligent manufacturing, Berma recently upgraded one of its Kongsberg C66 tables with a Feeder and Stacker.

This strategic enhancement allows the team to automate the production process entirely. A company representative noted, "The advantage of the C66, that we acquired, was productivity, because it’s a very fast and reliable machine and at the end of the day that is very important!"

The investment in automated technology has empowered Berma to run unattended production overnight, drastically reducing labour requirements and safeguarding employee well-being while maximising return on investment.

"By placing a pallet with material, we could let the machine run without the operator’s presence. The factory shuts down, the staff leaves, and the machine keeps working through the night, so the next morning the material is cut," the representative added.

This technological leap has also enabled Berma to confidently pioneer new market segments.

When the team began working with AIMPLAS, a demanding rigid material used as a substitute for polyurethane, the Kongsberg C66 delivered consistently clean cuts.

Processing this challenging material has allowed Berma to diversify its offerings beyond traditional corrugated applications, driving innovation while upholding responsible, forward-thinking manufacturing practices.
